I purchased the owlet monitor because my newborn had a tendency to spit up and choke in his sleep. I was very worried he might choke in his sleep and I may not hear him until it was too late. I purchased the owlet and set it up with my iPhone. The set up was fairly easy and only took a few moments. After a month of use we had never heard the alarm and then a few times in the night my son's heart rate would get incredibly high. My son's pediatrician put a halter monitor on him and was able to find an irregular heart beat when he sleeps. This may not have been caught without the owlet monitor! They state that it should not be used as a diagnostic or medical tool, but in our case, it helped the doctor diagnose this issue. The cardiologist now recommends my son always nap and sleep with the owlet so that we can stay on top of his "episodes". I only wish there was a way to look at history on the app.

My daughter Madeline was hospitalized at 17 days old with a heart condition called SVT. Maddie has an extra pathway that causes her heart rate to go upwards of 300 beats a minute. My husband and I wanted an at home monitor we could use to check her rate. The hospital offered us a take home one that included wires and a box that she would have to be hooked up to (not ideal). After some research we came across the Owlet smart sock and decided it would be more convenient then what the hospital was offering us. We use the smart sock every night. The only thing I wish it had was a mute button or volume control. When it goes off in the middle of the night we turn it off right away at the home station so not to wake our son who is 2. Turning it off deletes the reading on our phone so we don't get to see what the heart and oxygen levels are. We do however love this product and the piece of mind it gives us at night.

Some false alarms

We have had the heart rate or oxygen alarm multiple times while the baby is breathing and sleeping normally. I am wondering if the sock is on wrong and the base is misinterpreting the situation.

Worth Every Cent, Peace of Mind

My baby was born with severe GERD. However, before we knew that was what she had, we had multiple episodes of her having reflux choking and had to run to the ER due to loss of oxygen. I watched my baby turn shades of blue and purple as I tried to clear her airway waiting on EMS to get to our house. In addition to her GERD, she has colic. Talk about a nightmare. There is nothing worse than what little sleep you are already guaranteed to lose as a new parent, getting even less or none at all laying awake wondering if your child is choking to death. Her pedi placed her on a hospital grade monitor which we were so thankful for. Having a monitor is worth it. The question is do you stick to the hospital rental or purchase your own? Here is what it comes down to... You don't have a cord to deal with. You don't have to worry about dealing with insurance and the vendor every month. Our little one had to have the hospital monitor for two months minimum and because of this, the top layer of her skin ripped off each week due to the nodes bandage that is used to keep it in place. The owlet took care of all of that. The best part is you can see her vitals on your phone! Where the hospital monitor vitals could only be seen if you are in the room with her which does not work well when you have other things you need to do or aren't laying facing the monitor. We struggled for weeks whether we wanted to spend the money. It is a bit pricey and kind of goofy they charge s/h. But when you begin to realize you need a monitor that you would normally rent for longer than say a week, the Owlet is worth every penny.

Amazing peace of mind

We didn't use this to start with because I thought it would be a hassle to set up. It was SO EASY! And as soon as we started using this I felt comfortable to let my little one start sleeping in his own room instead of ours. Because of this HE STARTED SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT! At just 2 months he was sleeping 7-8 hours per night, and I was comfortable with him doing it because I could check the app at any point and see he was just fine. It's pricey. But it's 100% worth the price.

We use this product at night. It has given us peace of mind when the baby is sleeping. You can download the app and check the baby's heart rate and oxygen level. We haven't had an alarm yet except to tell us if the sock has fallen off. I wish it would monitor the baby even if they are moving.

I use this for all of my baby's naps and sleep time in her room. I love it! It calms my worried heart about SIDS. I don't feel like I have to check on her during the night. I can just look on the app if I'm curious about how she's doing.
Pros: The sock stays on really well and has 4 sizes!
