SVT diagnoses found due to Owlet

Very happy we purchased the Owlet 3 for our second baby. We really liked the Owlet 2 for our first so we purchased the updated one for our second. On Monday night I put the Owlet on our daughter and it started going off immediately with a high heart rate alert. I thought it was a false alarm since the sock doesnt always fit perfectly since she is pretty small (she is 2 weeks old and 6ish lbs) so I repositioned. It went off again and again reading a heart rate of 298! I didn't think that was even possible and she was acting normal. She had eaten fine all day, was playful and normal for 2 weeks old, no temperature and in a good mood. I tried to take her heart rate manually but couldn't seem to take it as her heart DID feel really fast. I put the owlet on the other foot and it read the same thing ... 298 bpm. At that point I was pretty concerned since she had been exposed to Covid and she also had a low oxygen alert go off. I called the nurse on call and she told me to bring her into the ER.
We got to the ER and they had a hard time getting her heart rate but once it showed up it was indeed 298 and higher (up to 315/320 at some points). At that point there were a ton of doctors asking questions about my pregnancy and delivery to make sure they didn't miss anything and I realized it could be serious. They did multiple EKGs, hooked her up for monitoring, took blood cultures and then ended up doing a cold compress to shock her heart rate back down. It was terrifying to watch but it worked and got her heart rate down. They ended up admitting her for observation through Thursday where she got more EKGs, checked her heart and more monitoring ect. Her heart still looks good even after it worked so hard for multiple hours and found that she also has a small hole (which isn't a big deal from the sounds of it and should repair on its own). She is now on medication for SVT through her first birthday which hopefully she grows out of by then. We have a check up next week at the hospital with a cardiologist to make sure things continue to look good.
Without the Owlet we would not have known her heart rate was SO high and taken her in when we did!

Great product and a great company always striving

My first son passed away at 5 months of age in December 2000 due to SIDS. Its a pain no parent should ever have to bare. When I finally healed enough from the trauma of losing my son Robbie and became pregnant 20 years later I did a lot of research on this product and company prior to purchasing now less than 2 weeks after receiving this product in the mail I want Thank you for listening to my suggestion to enhance the sock by making it a slide on elastic with straps still attached to the outside to adjust once the sensor is in place on the infants foot. This would definitely make your product more user friendly.
I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to any new parent over any other producton the market. The monetary investment is well worth it not only for peace of mind but also because it is a great product with a great company striving to make their product better with every sale. I give this product and company the a 10 out of 5 on a scale for going above and beyond. You not only have a great product but I'm very impressed with your desire to continually improve.
Thank you

Improvement from Sock 2 but new issues
on November 8, 2020

The Sock 3 introduces improvements over Sock 2 but introduces new problems. I originally owned a Sock 2, loved it and so bought the Sock 3. But the 3 introduced new problems and so I got another Sock 2. (I need two Socks, one for the day and one for the night.)
First, the good. The Sock 3 has wireless charging. It is fantastic to just drop it into the charging cradle instead of plugging in a micro USB cable. The Sock 3 is also slightly easier to wear. It is certainly easier to change into a new sock when the baby grows bigger.
Now, the new problems. First, it is said that the Sock 3 is more sensitive than the Sock 2. I'm not sure of my 3 is a bit too sensitive. Whenever the baby cries hard - as all parents will know is quite normal - the sock registers a high heart rate. Given the loudness of the alert, I find that agitates the baby, who is already wailing, even more. Of course, were the alert accurate, that is something I would take most seriously. But both Sock 2s do not register a high heart rate under similar circumstances. Either Sock 3 or Sock 2 is wrong - neither is a good thing.
Next, Sock 3 is very sensitive to fitting. I understand fit is important for a good measurement. But whereas I do not have a problem with Sock 2, I very frequently get a loose fitting alert with the 3, which results in persistent alerts. Now sometimes this happens if the baby moves a bit rigorously in his crib - obviously something I can't fix without waking him up!
Finally, the BIGGEST problem with the Sock 3 is that the option to turn off the blue and yellow alerts is lost. The blue alert occurs when connection is lost with the base station, whereas the yellow alert occurs when the fit is loose. With the Sock 2, I could turn off these alerts while preserving the red alert (which is important). The company tells me the reason why I can't turn off the blue and yellow alerts is because the base station has a longer reach. While this makes sense, it fails to take into account a practical arrangement some parents may have.
Let's say that my baby sleeps with his caregiver in a different room from me. But I want the base station in my room so that I can be alerted to any red alarms. However no matter how good the Sock 3 range is, it does not cover two rooms fully. Thus, when my caregiver in the other room brings baby to a rocking chair in the corner to feed, the blue alert goes off in my room. Or, the baby kicks and loosens the sock. The yellow alert goes off. Now I understand we need these alerts so that when there really is a red alert emergency, we will know. But I rather not have the blue and yellow alerts persistently interrupting my sleep when the cause - as often is the case - is innocuous.
For this reason, I deemed the Sock 3 practically unusable for my setup. I therefore bought a second Sock 2 to use as my night sock.
So my suggestion is - if you can get a 2, go get it. It offers more customisation options in terms of alerts. This may be necessary in some setups. It is also less sensitive - whether that is good or bad depends on whether the 3 is too sensitive. At least I don't have to compete with a red siren in the background when baby is crying!

Peace of mind

I bought the Owlet because as a NICU nurse, I'm well aware of how quickly a sick baby can go from ok to not-ok. I also know a family who lost a baby to SIDS. Knowing that I can check my baby's heart rate and oxygen levels at anytime, and that I'll be notified if they drop definitely helps me sleep at night. We live in a small house, but I'm pleased that I can take her from our room to her room across the hall without losing connection with the base station.

I bought this a couple weeks ago due to having PPA, my daughter is 4 months old and has only ever slept on me or next to me because i like to check to make sure she is breathing as we have had a BRUE before, i now can finally lay my girl down in her cot and be calm knowing i will be alerted and can quickly check the app if i need to assure myself that she is fine! I am so so so happy that something like this exists because i finally feel human again! The sock and camera are perfect, the features work great and i love that i can finally get a good nights sleep!

At first we had a bit of trouble with placement, and getting alerts, but after we figured out the placement, The Owlet has been a HUGE stress reliever. I am an older first time Mum, and our Bub is a miracle for us, so I was so extremely worried when we brought him home from the hospital, and it resulted in us checking on him with every noise he did and di not make, and got barely any sleep as a result. So we decided to try Owlet, and Oh My WOW, it has been a game Changer. I can actually get a good night sleep without having to worry about my Miracle. We can not recommend this product enough..

I am so grateful for the help I received from customer service regarding replacing the sensor on my owlet sock. They were so helpful, kind and generous. This sock gives me peace of mind when sleeping, knowing I will be alerted should my little one’s oxygen or heart rate drop below normal levels. Thank you owlet!!!
