The iPhone 17 Pro Max is hands down one of the best smartphones Apple has ever made. From the moment you pick it up, it feels premium, powerful, and thoughtfully designed. The display is absolutely stunning—bright, smooth, and incredibly immersive whether you’re scrolling, streaming, or gaming.

Change is good. Just not from Android to Apple.

I've been had Samsung phones pretty much as long as they've existed. I switched to iPhone this year because my new car -- a Volvo EX30 EV -- only supports the iPhone as a digital key to open and run my car. And in that sense, my new iPhone 17 Pro Max gets the job done, opening and locking my car as a dutiful proximity key. That I love. Everything else. Meh! My biggest complaint? No fingerprint reader.! Instead, I'm stuck with only Face ID, which works pretty well, but it's sadly inefficient in many cases. My biggest pet peeve is paying at retail. With my Samsung S24 Plus, I simply authenticate with my fingerprint, then hold the phone to the card reader. Boom. Done! With the iPhone, I have to hold the phone to the reader, then double click the power button (rerally Apple?), then I have to hold the phone to my face so it can authenticate the transaction. Waaaay too much work. Bring back the fingerprint reader Apple. (idiots!). Other than that, I like many of the iPhone's features, but the phone is slower than my S24 Plus and the screen is oddly unresponsive in spots, usually along the right edge, so tapping an interactive icon takes multiple tries. Maybe I got a bad phone, who knows.
