Thank you Edmond K for your helpful email and links. Upgraded from 8tb to 32tb in my 2 bay NAS. It was reasonably fast and easy. Of course running raid 1 cuts the usable storage in half but 16tb is more than enough for my house needs.

It was a great price for a pair of huge drives to upgrade my NAS. They work fine in my Synology box, despite not being on the approved drive list. My only disappointment is that the cache appears to clog up when transferring lots of files.

The drives did not ship until a week after the advertised ship date. When they arrived I spoke with WD support and they indicated that three of the four drives had invalid serial numbers. This was eventually sorted out but it was not a good experience.
