I bought 2, but one of two was dead on arrival. The dead one sounds like monster. I have to wait couple of weeks for a change. And finally i got "REFURBISHED" one. Yeah.. It was not a good deal at all. I think i got scammed
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Both drives arrived dead, no chance to see how good they really are. Waiting on refund.

Hello,
We're sorry to hear about your user experience with the WD Red Pro Hard Disk Drive and appreciate your time for providing this review.
Based on your concern, if the drive is not showing up on the computer then it could be due to insufficient power supply to the drive for operation. To isolate the cause of the drive failure, it is recommended to connect the drive as secondary storage via SATA port to the computer and check the drive for any damage or defect by following the information provided in the link below.
"How to check an internal drive for defects, problems, corruption, or a power issue": https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/15514
We recommend connecting the drive as secondary storage via SATA port to the computer, to test the health of the drive using Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows.
"Testing a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows": https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6226
If the test is unfortunately inconclusive and you just purchased the drive then you should be able to return it to the place of purchase. However, if you are past their return policy, you can create an RMA through WD and replace the drive under warranty.

Dead on arrival. I was super excited to get my NAS up and running for the desperately needed memory. Well that did not happen. I had a hard time returning the hard drive. I called multiple times to get a RMA, but their phone just kept ringing busy and hung up on me. Finally, I was able to return the product.

Bought on Cyber Monday sale on WD website. Only after purchase was informed Drive was on Back Order. If I had known drive was Back Ordered, then I wouldn't have purchased. Now 3 weeks later, told drive isn't available and will get a refund. Missed Cyber Monday deals due to WD's dishonesty. Congratulations WD, you just lost a lifelong WD customer and fan.

In my TrueNas setup

Installed 8x of the 16TB into my TrueNas box. Upgraded from 8TB drives to these, RAIDz2 setup, 83TB of usable storage. I suspect this amount of storage will last a good 8 years before I could need the next upgrade. Been 2 months so far and no problems, and knowing WD I probably won't have any.

I purchased this hard drive to work with my new Synology NAS as a media server for all my movies, music and photos. I didn't realize that this particular size was not on the Synology "approved" list for my particular drive, but all the same drives of lesser capacity are approved. This may be because this size is new. In any case, I installed the dual drives and hoped for the best and find that they work just great and are quite snappy in performance. Now if they just hold up as long as my other WD Red NAS drives, I will be quite happy.

It is a good drive, for a good price, packaging and shipping is extremely disappointing. It came in anti static foil and thin cardboard box, two drives moving around the box. I see it as no physical damage protection, during transport. They are a bit noisy, not sure if it is due to bouncing around too much during shipping or just noisy due to size.

The Best practice is to run diagnostics with Western Digital Dashboard when a drive does not perform as expected or is behaving abnormally. We recommend you to connecting the drive as secondary storage via SATA port to the computer, to test the health of the drive using Western Digital Dashboard for Windows.

Found it was very easy to expand storage inside my PR 2100 Raid1 storage box. I went from 8 TB to 16 TB and it took the system 18 hours to transfer all data. Process was: 1. Log into drive dashboard. 2. Turn off all installed apps. 3. Click on storage, auto rebuild on, RAID Mode 1, then Expand Capacity, and press Next. 4. Follow on-screen instructions. 5. Turn apps back on and you are done! Note that you will have to keep logging back in due to dashboard time outs in order to check progress of storage expansion.
