My new favorite thing

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This IPL is amazing. First off, the packaging is so nice and high quality. Everything has its own place. The device itself is very nice. It looks and feels like a professional system. It’s extremely easy to use and pain free. The booklets give you step by step instructions. The IPL machine itself has automatic sensors that adjust as you go. It’s really a great device. The flashes are super bright so prepare yourself for that.

It is making the time between shaving longer and longer, and each time I use it the hair grows back thinner! I have used it on myself and my husband. There is no pain and it is simple to use. I am so glad to have this!!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This EW Silk·expert Pro 5 IPL is easy to use if you follow the instructions! Make sure to shave first. Then plug in and use the Silk Expert Pro in small sections on your skin. I have only had it about 3 weeks and found it easy to use by taking my time and doing it in sections. So far no irritation and looking forward to no shaving during summer.

Working nicely for me

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve been using this Braun’s Silk·expert Pro 5 for a few weeks now. I have dark blonde hair and a medium fair complexion. I have already seen promising results on my legs, and bikini area. I have much lighter hair regrowth in these areas. My hair has grown back, but a lot slower, and more patchy each time. It does require patience. I’m much too self conscious to go to a hair removal treatment spa, so I’m very happy to have this effective at home treatment, to do on my own in the privacy of my home. This unit includes a really nice case, the device, additional caps, a cartridge, and a razor. I love that it comes with the nice storage case, keeping it all together, safe, and not cluttering up my cabinets. I would definitely recommend wearing dark glasses, an ice pack and trying to look away from the flash as much as possible. I'm happy with my results so far and recommend anyone wanting long term hair removal to give this Braun’s Silk·expert Pro 5 a try.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Functionality of this device is great. It couldn’t be easier to use. Just plug it in and push the button to turn on. It doesn’t take long to warm up. The laser hurts the same as getting regular laser hair removal but it’s tolerable. I have light skin and dark hair so it’s the optimal tone for usage. I haven’t seen crazy results yet, been using about a month. I have deeply rooted hair so I’m going to give it a full six months to really see what happens. It’s super quick and an easy part of my routine so I’m going to stay with it.

We can assure you that our Braun IPL has been thoroughly evaluated to be safe when used as directed. We'd like to mention that some people will experience slight discomfort (e.g. heat or redness of the skin) when using the device, and this is normal. You may feel heat and tingling when activating the flash, followed by redness in the skin, and this type of reaction usually disappears within 24 hours. As well, our IPL has gone through many quality checks to ensure that you can enjoy the best possible results. Since only hairs in their growing phase are susceptible to treatment with light, it's important to do multiple treatments to achieve continuously smooth skin. For this reason, we recommend a start-up phase of 12 weeks. During this time, we suggest using the device once per week. These types of hair removal am be intimidating, but it was incredibly easy to use. The directions were easy and I was it within minutes. After a few times using it, I now have less hair! Amazing!

I have now owned the Silk Expert Pro 5 for 12 months, and I’ve learned quite a bit, so buckle up.
The box included the device, a carrying case, and a razor. No eyewear. I understand that the website says eye protection is not needed, however just about every other website you can visit regarding IPL recommends eye protection. It would have cost Braun very little to include a set of cheap goggles, especially if they purchased in bulk and gave the manufacturer credit, promoting their product. Instead Braun includes a razor that will last you, at best, a month? That’s if you even choose to use it. I have sensitive skin and it took me years to find the perfect razor. The last thing I’m going to do it use a new brand immediately before applying IPL to my skin. Braun, ditch the razor and include some eye protection, whether you think we need it or not.
It’s going to take considerably longer than you think to remove all your hair. I am very pale, like second, maybe third shade of foundation from the very lightest, but I have very dark hair, and the hair on my legs grows quick. Like, shave in the morning and have stubble by night time kind of quick. In summer I would shave the top half of my leg, above the knee, one day, and below my knee the next day, and just alternate. Every day. I had to shave my armpits every other day. I had to shave my lip and two spots on my chin every other day. I was going through a razor every two weeks and they weren’t cheap. When using this device, you shave the area you’re going to treat, then use the device, so you really don’t know what spots you’re missing. Also, the longer you use it, the slower the zaps get. After doing about half of my calf, the zaps get slower. I would say I spend about 10 minutes each time I use it. I follow the same pattern I did when I shaved: shave above the knee and use the device one day, then do below the knee and my armpits the next day. I would then wait a couple days and repeat the process. After about 4 months I could go a week without having to shave my calves. I went from using it twice weekly, to once weekly, to once every 10 days or so. It took about 8 weeks of consistent use to stop shaving my armpits three times a week. Now, I have to do an armpit touch up, cleaning up the random hairs that I missed, maybe once every 10 days, if that. After 12 months I’m to a point where I can go two weeks without shaving my calves in shorts weather. I’m still working on my upper legs, specifically the inside of my thighs. That is some stubborn hair, but I’m down to shaving that about every 10 days. My upper lip and chin are a completely different story. I used to have to shave my upper lip and two spots on my chin every two days. Now I can go three days, sometimes four if I’m lucky. I wonder if it’s because that hair used to be waxed. I’ve never waxed my legs or armpits, but I did wax my lip, and a rogue esthetician saw some hairs on my chin one time and threw wax on them before I even knew what was happening. That hair started growing in faster and darker and was the bane of my existence for about 10 years. I’m REALLY hoping that the IPL will eventually start working on those areas better, but it’s been a year of consistent use on those areas, so I’m not holding out much hope.
All in all, if you’ve got the money, this is a good little device. I don't have before and after pictures, I've never put that much stock in them, they're too easy to fake. I can’t speak to how well it will work on lighter hair, but if you’re patient and consistent, you’ll have success on darker hair, just know it’s likely going to take longer than the four weeks they say it will take for “lasting hair reduction”. That, and the lack of protective eyewear, is the reason for only three stars.

Before I tried this IPL device, I was concerned about several things. 1. The pain caused by the zaps. 2. The efficacy of this treatment. 3. Is the aftercare to burdensome? 4. Is it worth the price tag?
I’m pleased to say that it is not painful in most areas, except my sensitive inner thighs, which thankfully is not hairy. I began to see results after 3 weeks, just from the hair growth slowing down, and by the 4th week, most hair follicles have already gone dormant. I have sensitive skin and some of the aftercare for this treatment is staying out of the sun and avoiding chemical exfoliants (like AHA and BHA which were staples in my skin care routine). The only change I made was apply sunscreen to my face more diligently up to 3 days after an IPL treatment and I also had to put a pause on my use of all chemical exfoliants, it was worth it. Lastly, compared to the price of laser hair removal, and the other competing IPL devices, the Braun IPL pro 5 is the sweet spot between efficacy and price, where I feel that it’s very effective and not too expensive. It is definitely an investment but a reasonable and worthy one.
I’m very happy about my purchase so far. I use this device once a week, on my legs, the lower half of my face, my underarms, and my bikini area. I have tanned skin and dark hair.
