Still Zapping

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm on week 5 of using my Venus Silk-Expert and while I haven't seen drastic results I am still hopeful and happy with the results I am seeing. I can definitely tell that my hair is growing in slower and a little finer. With 7 weeks to go till the end of the weekly treatment cycle I think I'm going to be very happy with the results. I won't lie it is not a quick fix, you need to commit to the process. It does get easier with use but takes some time to get familiar with. I am very much looking forward to breaking up with my razor!!! You can see in my picture this a weeks worth of growth on my leg and it's barely anything

Ouch! Yet effective!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After receiving this product free from Braun, I was so excited to use it. When I first tried it, I was surprised how sensitive my skin was-it hurt! I have very fair skin so the light was at a very high intensity. I adjusted to the less intense setting which helped somewhat. I kept using the product thinking/hoping that my skin would become less sensitive during the course of several weeks. Unfortunately it still hurts when I complete a treatment but I have been pleased with the results. I plan to keep up with the treatments. I appreciate being able to do these treatments on my own in the comfort of my home.

Easy to use

I received my Venus Silk-expert in the mail a couple days ago. I was really excited about this product because light-based hair removal is something that usually requires multiple office visits, but this product allows me to do it in the comfort and privacy of my home. Since I have fair and sensitive skin, I did a test patch on my lower leg on the middle intensity setting (there are three intensity settings). After 24 hours, I used the Venus Silk-expert on my legs. Overall, it was a very easy process that didn't require any extra prep or post-care afterward. It my be all in my head, but my legs felt smoother after my first treatment. I'm looking forward to seeing the difference after the initial treatment time, and having smoother legs this summer.

A Breeze to Use - And Painless Too!

I decided to do a "before" and "after" experiment to really put it to the test. I went one whole week without shaving my armpits or legs so I could take my "before" pics. (My husband was a little grossed out, but oh well! lol) I will use the Silk Expert for a trial period of 8 or 9 weeks and then I will take some "after" pics of my legs and armpits when going one week without shaving. I can't wait to see (and feel) the results!
Today was my first day using the Silk-Expert and I am pleasantly surprised! I thought the process may be really time consuming and painful, but it was not at all! I did my arms, armpits, bikini area, upper and lower legs plus a little area on my lower back and belly that has light peach fuzz and all of that only took me 35 minutes! Of course, you have to clean and shave all areas you want to use it on first. The process wasn't painful at all either! Occasionally there would be a stray hair I missed while shaving and I'd feel a slight tingling sensation and would smell burning hair, but other than that it was just more of a warm sensation on the area I was applying it to than anything.
You just hold the Silk-Expert flush to your skin, press and hold the button. Once you see the light pulse flash, you know it's time to move on to the next area. There is even a gentle mode button that you can press if the heat is too intense for you but I never needed to use it! You are not supposed to overlap areas of treatment but I found that it leaves a faint white outline on your skin for a few seconds so you can use that as a guide to see where you left off.
I'm also loving that this is a Special Beauty Edition that came with a nice face cleaning brush! It works and feels great on your face and works wonders in removing excess makeup and dead skin flakes off your face!
So far, so good! I will keep you posted on my body hair elimination journey!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used the product for two weeks and so far I like it and think it's working. I used it on both my legs and my arm pits so far. On my legs I definitely noticed the hair took longer to grow back after he first treatment, and what did grow wasn't as thick. For the armpit, I think because the hair is more corse, I haven't seen much change yet, but will keep at it. Basically, you treat the areas once a week for twelve weeks, so have a lot more to go but feeling optimistic. You feel a slight tingle, but nothing painful really. There is a burning smell that will make you feel like you should be more in pain from burning but really it's all in your head. I will say the most difficult thing was that there are two sensors that have to be in contact with skin in order for the laser to work, and this made doing my legs a little difficult. My shin area was not wide enough for it to work going from the ankle to the knee motion. I was able to get around this by doing small circle around my leg in a horizontal motion instead of a vertical. It probably takes longer but the only way I found that I could make sure I was getting all of my leg. Overall though, both of my legs took less then 15 minutes so even then it wasn't like it took to long. So far I like it though and am excited to see my results after twelve weeks!

I am currently on my fourth treatment of my lower legs and I have light skin with dark hair. The Venus Silk-expert is simple to use. Just plug it in and press the button. I expected the firm snap of the professional machine, but this I barely felt. (I was worried that since it didn't hurt, it wasn't working.) The machine gets a little warm by the end of the treatment, but it doesn't burn.
The results; as of the fourth treatment, I'm noticing less hair growth. My legs are still smooth after three days of not shaving. So, I'm giving this four out of five stars just because I haven't finished all of the treatments and its unknown what the upkeep will be. But, from what I've seen seen so far, it is working as well as the professional treatment for a fraction of the cost. Translation- worth the money- wish I had bought this before investing in the professional treatments.

Professional-quality, permanent hair reduction at home? Sign me up! I've only been using this a few days, but so far, I'm in love. From the very first contact, my home was transformed into a medical spa. The device is boxed luxuriously, and I felt like I was opening a beautiful gift. I can easily imagine ladies thrilled to receive this package on holidays or birthdays. I got the "Special Beauty Edition", and the included face cleansing brush was a very pleasant surprise. I have received pro laser hair treatments for years, and this device feels comparable.
Pros:
-LOVE that you can just plug and go. No time wasted for charging/recharging.
-Simple, straightforward instructions, and easy-to-use.
-Comfortable ergonomic handle shape.
-Power cord is long enough to reach all body areas while looking in a mirror.
-Nice big IPL window, to easily treat larger areas but still get good contact with skin in targeted areas.
-The genius skin tone sensor technology that auto adjusts the intensity not only to each person, but to each part of my body.
-The 'glide' feature is amazing convenient when using on large areas like legs and arms.
-No pain. Trust me!
Cons:
-Slight odor when using. The hair follicle being vaporized, I believe.
-The next day, the areas I treated were just slightly pink. But had no soreness or discomfort.
*Please note that both these issues are not true Cons. They are typical when doing IPL hair treatments, and the manual does warn you in advance. If anything else comes up, I will update my review, but I do not anticipate having to do so.
Overall, I am really glad I own the Gillette Venus Silk-expert IPL powered by Braun. I can safely say I will be making less med spa IPL appointments in the future!

Progress after 4 weeks

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a very fair complexion and very dark brown hair, which means, not only do I have (quite visible) unwanted hair that needs removal, but I'm also a good candidate for IPL.
Before this campaign I was not aware that IPL required a certain amount of differentiation between skin and hair color in order for it to work (if your hair is too light or your skin too dark, this is not for you.) So my fair skin was perfect for this, or so it seemed. I also found out that this is not intended to work over moles or other colorations of the skin, which I consider myself a pretty freckled and mole covered person. My forearms are so riddled with freckles that I discounted them immediately. Instead opting for my bikini line.
Now, because of my complexion, the light is able to work at it's highest setting, and I must say the first time I used it, I was rather surprised how much I could feel it! It doesn't exactly hurt, but it definitely stings a little (especially on rather sensitive skin) and I find I have to turn it down to the medium-intensity setting.
Because of the location, I have found manually moving to each spot and clicking the button each time is easier than a fluid motion, but have not tested this on a larger area like my legs. I have noticed a faint burning smell the last few times I used it, which I suppose means it's working... but it's not the most pleasant.
I used it once a week for 4+ weeks and have noticed that the hair does perhaps come in a little slower each time and is maybe not as full as it once was. It by no means has replaced my shaving entirely, but I'm hopeful that it could, if I kept up with the process.
I'm glad I was able to give IPL a try as I've always been curious, but was saddened to find out my freckled skin was not the best candidate. Plus, because of my moles, I am always worried about skin cancer and I have to admit I have some concerns over the safety of such devices.
Overall, I like the product and will continue to use it for several more weeks to see if I can get the area to have a more permanent reduction of hair growth.
If you are considering buying one, I recommend the you read up on the product first and determine that your area and skin/hair types are a good candidate before shelling out the rather high cost.
