[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First, let me say that I received this product for free from Braun for my honest feedback. I'd also like to say I have had professional laser hair removal before using this product.
I am currently on my fourth treatment of my lower legs and I have light skin with dark hair. The Venus Silk-expert is simple to use. Just plug it in and press the button. I expected the firm snap of the professional machine, but this I barely felt. (I was worried that since it didn't hurt, it wasn't working.) The machine gets a little warm by the end of the treatment, but it doesn't burn.
The results; as of the fourth treatment, I'm noticing less hair growth. My legs are still smooth after three days of not shaving. So, I'm giving this four out of five stars just because I haven't finished all of the treatments and its unknown what the upkeep will be. But, from what I've seen seen so far, it is working as well as the professional treatment for a fraction of the cost. Translation- worth the money- wish I had bought this before investing in the professional treatments.

So far, so great!

Professional-quality, permanent hair reduction at home? Sign me up! I've only been using this a few days, but so far, I'm in love. From the very first contact, my home was transformed into a medical spa. The device is boxed luxuriously, and I felt like I was opening a beautiful gift. I can easily imagine ladies thrilled to receive this package on holidays or birthdays. I got the "Special Beauty Edition", and the included face cleansing brush was a very pleasant surprise. I have received pro laser hair treatments for years, and this device feels comparable.
Pros:
-LOVE that you can just plug and go. No time wasted for charging/recharging.
-Simple, straightforward instructions, and easy-to-use.
-Comfortable ergonomic handle shape.
-Power cord is long enough to reach all body areas while looking in a mirror.
-Nice big IPL window, to easily treat larger areas but still get good contact with skin in targeted areas.
-The genius skin tone sensor technology that auto adjusts the intensity not only to each person, but to each part of my body.
-The 'glide' feature is amazing convenient when using on large areas like legs and arms.
-No pain. Trust me!
Cons:
-Slight odor when using. The hair follicle being vaporized, I believe.
-The next day, the areas I treated were just slightly pink. But had no soreness or discomfort.
*Please note that both these issues are not true Cons. They are typical when doing IPL hair treatments, and the manual does warn you in advance. If anything else comes up, I will update my review, but I do not anticipate having to do so.
Overall, I am really glad I own the Gillette Venus Silk-expert IPL powered by Braun. I can safely say I will be making less med spa IPL appointments in the future!

Progress after 4 weeks

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a very fair complexion and very dark brown hair, which means, not only do I have (quite visible) unwanted hair that needs removal, but I'm also a good candidate for IPL.
Before this campaign I was not aware that IPL required a certain amount of differentiation between skin and hair color in order for it to work (if your hair is too light or your skin too dark, this is not for you.) So my fair skin was perfect for this, or so it seemed. I also found out that this is not intended to work over moles or other colorations of the skin, which I consider myself a pretty freckled and mole covered person. My forearms are so riddled with freckles that I discounted them immediately. Instead opting for my bikini line.
Now, because of my complexion, the light is able to work at it's highest setting, and I must say the first time I used it, I was rather surprised how much I could feel it! It doesn't exactly hurt, but it definitely stings a little (especially on rather sensitive skin) and I find I have to turn it down to the medium-intensity setting.
Because of the location, I have found manually moving to each spot and clicking the button each time is easier than a fluid motion, but have not tested this on a larger area like my legs. I have noticed a faint burning smell the last few times I used it, which I suppose means it's working... but it's not the most pleasant.
I used it once a week for 4+ weeks and have noticed that the hair does perhaps come in a little slower each time and is maybe not as full as it once was. It by no means has replaced my shaving entirely, but I'm hopeful that it could, if I kept up with the process.
I'm glad I was able to give IPL a try as I've always been curious, but was saddened to find out my freckled skin was not the best candidate. Plus, because of my moles, I am always worried about skin cancer and I have to admit I have some concerns over the safety of such devices.
Overall, I like the product and will continue to use it for several more weeks to see if I can get the area to have a more permanent reduction of hair growth.
If you are considering buying one, I recommend the you read up on the product first and determine that your area and skin/hair types are a good candidate before shelling out the rather high cost.

Amazing and easy to use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Braun sent me the product and after using it weekly for a month, I am having to shave less frequently. My legs are staying smother longer too. It is so easy to use! It only takes me about 15 minutes to do both legs after I shave, it was a little awkward at first making sure to make sure bother sensors are touching your skin the whole time, but very quickly I got the hang of it.

I have used it for three weeks straight and cannot live without it. I have my entire adult life tried to remove unwanted hair and having the ability to do it at home changes everything for me. I've used it on my underarms twice now and can't even begin to tell you how with it it is. Yes, there is a slight sting to the laser light but I've done professional laser hair removal and that is what tells me it is working.

Painless (literally and figuratively!)

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the Gillette Venus Silk Expert IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Hair Removal System two days ago and I was excited to launch my inaugural trial. I've watched the videos on Braun's website several times in preparation of use because I wanted to make sure I was thoroughly informed on how to use the device. It seemed very straight forward and the directions which come enclosed also make it foolproof (especially for me as I have a tendency to get nervous that I am going to screw something up). Reading other reviews prior, I expected to feel a sting of some kind but surprisingly I enjoyed the sensation. I decided to try my legs first, so in preparation, I washed them, removed the hair by shaving and patted dry. I plugged in the hair removal device and the fan instantly began to hum. There are two settings, one for sensitive areas and first-time users so they can get used to the feeling of the light pulses. The second setting is for larger areas like legs, arms, back, chest, etc. You can depress the button which allows you to cover these larger areas more efficiently. Again, expecting that little shock, I tried the sensitive setting around my ankles and knees and I had to question if I was doing it correctly since I didn't see or feel anything. Then I became bold and daring, switching to the gliding mode and voila, I saw the bright red flashes of light and felt the heat emitting from the device. It was as if someone was taking snapshots of my legs and the light looked as if I was holding a flashlight directly on my skin. The instructions say not to go over the same area twice, which I might admit, it's possible I did since in the gliding mode you would have to line the device up perfectly on each new area so as not to repeat skin areas. I guess I will find out how successful I was when my hair starts to grow back. The instructions state that hair growth is possible on the areas that were missed or where hair may not have been in a regrowth stage. Overall, I am excited to see the results! My only complaint of the product so far is that it does not come with a storage pouch or carrying case. I am actually going on vacation this evening and would have loved to store it in something other than the box. The facial cleansing brush is soft yet powerful and worked beautifully lathering up my normal skin care cleansing cream. I felt like I just came from having a facial!

It's that Easy? No way!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was a bit skeptical, but now I can clearly SEE the difference. I only use the Gillette® Venus® Silk-expert powered by BraUn on my left leg. After a few days, you can see that the hair is growing on my right leg and not my left. I did the same under my arms and it is amazing.

This is working great for me

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After eight weeks I almost have no hair growing on my armpits at all and the hair on my legs is thinning significantly. I love that it has a gentle option as well so that I can use it in my sensitive areas like tops of my toes and feet and my bikini area. I think you need to wear sunglasses sometimes when I am doing my legs and the flashes seem so bright. But as long as it is working I am a happy camper. Thanks Braun for letting me try this free, I absolutely love it and told all of my friends to stop bothering with expensive and painful laser treatments. This saved me a ton of money and pain!!! I wish they would come up with something for darker skinned people though because I have many friends who would love to use it, so hopefully Braun is working on that.
