Not for all haircolors or skin tones

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is one of those gadgets that you would need and want to read the instructions first. I say this because you'd expect this device to be compatible for everyone, however, that is not the case. There are actually certain haircolor and skin color combinations that this device is not recommended for. This presents a problem if you happen to be one of the individuals that fall into these groups, or if you were thinking about gifting it to someone that falls into one of these unrecommended groups. It would be a literal waste of money as they would not be able to use it with satisfactory results. The first page of the instruction manual will show a grid chart of the hair and skin tones this device is effective and not effective for. On a positive note, I love that this beauty version included a handy spin brush as a nice bonus.

Easy to use

Before using I was really concerned that it was going to be painful and take a long time to complete. There are three settings (normal, gentle, and extra gentle), this made me think that it must hurt if there is an 'extra gentle' setting. I used the normal setting on my legs first, did not hurt at all. The treatment plate got a little warm, but not uncomfortable at all. I then used the normal setting again on my armpits, and I could feel the warmth of the plate during the flash but it did not hurt at all.
The device was easy to use. It is not heavy to hold, and there are indicator lights on both sides so its easy to see if you have proper placement. I had to turn the device in a different way than for my leg to go around my ankle, but it doesn't take long to find good placement.
The only thing I found difficult was not looking during the flash when it was in continuous mode. I wanted to look where it was going but the flash is bright (you don't really want to hurt your eyes).
It doesn't take very long to complete a session. After you remove your hair (I shaved), just relax, put on some music, and use the device. Consider it extra pamper time.

Nifty and easy to use; excited for results

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Thanks to Braun, I am able to try the Gillette Venus Silk Expert for free, in return for my honest opinion. I was super excited to try this out. I have used it three times (three weeks) so far. I have been using it on my legs and underarms. The first times I tried it, I did try it on gentle mode, but then I decided that it really didn't hurt, so I tried it in regular mode. It really doesn't hurt at all. It just feels like a little zap. Like a rubber band hitting the skin, but just minor. I can't stress enough how much it really doesn't hurt. The device has some weight to it; which is nice. It is easy to use (especially after reading the instructions). I like the feature for continuous movement. I can get through both of my legs quite quickly. There isn't a problem in any hard to reach spaces. If it doesn't work horizontally, then I just turn the device vertically and I am able to get all the spots. At least I think I am getting all the spots. That is the only downfall is that I am not sure I haven't skipped a spot, but I am not sure how you would track that. So this really isn't a problem for me. Another great feature is there is a free Gillette Venus Sill Expert App that I downloaded to my phone. This way I can keep track of all my treatments and it even sends me reminders. I love this feature. As for hair not growing back, I think I am still too early in the dreamt net to tell, but I am excited to see the results once the 12th treatment is complete.

So easy and painless!

I read the easy to use instructions, shaved, tested an area earlier, then treated my legs with the Gillette Venus Silk-expert powered by Braun. The wand is very well made and easy to hold. Once against the skin correctly, the lights turn white, and press the button. I looked away from the laser light, and tried to cover all of the area. I was nervous that it might hurt, but it was painless. There is just a little warmth emitted and left after treatment. It took me about 10 minutes to do my legs. This is extremely easy to use. It feels like a spa treatment in the privacy of your home.

Convenient Product with real results!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I always wanted to try professional hair removal but with a busy schedule it was tough to find time to go to treatments. Having a product like the Venus Silk-expert is a game changer. Getting professional results at home, fit into your schedule whenever you have the time, makes this product worth it. When I first received this product, I was a little discouraged to read in the instructions that you shouldn't expect 100% hair removal. Little did I know that any improvement makes a difference and I am sure if I continue to use the Silk-expert, I can try and get closer to the results that I want. So far, I have been using the product for 5 weeks and I have seen significantly less growth in my targeted areas. Again, it's not 100% and it's not perfect, but it is progress and it has made the hair look thinner. There's a slight heating sensation when 'zapping' the area but I would not say that it is painful in any way. It is a little bulky and hard to maneuver around some areas, like ankles or knees. I also think it is a little goofy that they include a facial exfoliator type device in addition to the Silk-expert. The exfoliator doesn't do much and I would much rather have a fancy razor or trimmer to help remove the hair before you start the treatments. All in all, I have been satisfied with the product and I would recommend it to anyone who fits their criteria for use. Apparently a light skin/dark hair combo is ideal, so just be sure to check out their recommendations beforehand so you know if the product will work for you.

2 weeks without a shave, Nice!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using the Venus Silk-expert for eight weeks and I absolutely love it. It is not an instant hair remover. In fact, you have to shave before you use it. Over smooth legs (or other area) I slowly glide the device while watching tv, or talking on the phone. There are bright flashes and a warm sensation. It takes about 0 minutes to complete one leg. The results: Amazing! I showed my sister my legs which I had not shaved for two weeks. She could not believe how little hair growth that there was. I have always been the girl who has to shave every day. I have so much hair that sometimes there are even 2 hairs growing out of the same follicle. Now, the growth has completely stopped in some areas and is much slower in other, allowing me to prolong my shaves. I believe with continued use ( up to 12 weeks) I will be nearly hair free.
One thing I would recommend new users to do is to set an alarm on their calendar to remind them when to use the device next ( once per week). This will help keep you on track. Overall, I love my Venus! I should mention that I received my Venus-expert for free from Braun in exchange for my honest opinion. If it would have not worked, I would have said so. However, I am happy to say it did! If they make one that you can use on your face, I will buy it!!!

Worth a try

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using the Gillette Venus silk expert IPL for a few weeks now and I think that it is working. It took me some time to learn if I could use and and how to use it. There are a lot of rules and matching of skin tones that make it seem really complicated and overwhelming. I would not have hesitated as much if not for all of that. Then I had to do some research to see if it was safe, something I didn't even consider before reading the manual. I finally decided to give it a try but my skin tone really didn't match anything shown so I could be using it incorrectly. I am about 3 weeks in and I feel like I am not shaving as much but I still need some time using it to really determine its effectiveness.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the Gillette Venus Silk-expert free from Braun to test out. I was very excited about receiving this product and giving it a try. I have used the product for about 5 weeks now on my legs and underarms. It is extremely simple and easy to use.he product is quick to warm up as well as cool down. I love how low maintenance it is. It also is able to sense your skin tone and adjusts the strength accordingly. This product really requires no stress/thought to use!
During use, there is a bright flash and a warming sensation. With each flash, I do feel some minor pain and the dull ache lasts for maybe 2 minutes after finishing use. This is the only reason I have given it 4 stars instead of 5. That being said, I do feel like it is worth it! I have noticed both a reduction in regrowth as well as that regrowth taking longer to return. To test out the product, I've been using on one leg and just shaving the other. At 5 weeks in, there is a noticeable difference in the regrowth between the two legs.I can't wait to see what 12 weeks of use brings!
