This is the real deal!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the Gillette Venus Silk-expert intense pulsed light free to try from Braun. I was excited to give it a go, but nervous because of all the warnings and instructions. After reading the booklet several times, I was ready to try it out. I decided to try it on my legs, because who doesn't want to be able to stop shaving their legs? This was probably a bad choice for the first try. I would suggest using it on a smaller area until you really get the hang of it. I tried it on the gentle setting first, because I was scared it would hurt, but then moved it to the regular setting. Most of the time it didn't feel like anything except maybe a little heat, but several times I did get a zap that felt almost exactly like being hit with a rubber band...in other words, a quick "ouch!" that was more of the surprise than pain. The machine has to sense the skin on the entire area, so it was tricky to do the more awkward shaped areas of my legs, like the shin. I finally turned it sideways (length-wise) for that part, and it seemed to work fine. I would suggest using this machine in bright light so it's easier to tell where you've already done (it leaves a tiny indentation for a few minutes after use). I tried the gliding style suggested by the booklet for larger areas, but didn't like it since you really do have to turn your face away when the light goes on, and if you can't tell when it's going to go, you don't know when to look away. I suggest just pushing the button each time (place the device, check for the "good to go" lights, turn away, push the button, repeat). All in all, I am very excited to see how this works in the next few weeks!

Buh-bye armpit hair!

I've been using this Gillette® Venus® Silk-expert powered by Braun® each Sunday on my underarms for over 2 months now. (The little snap you feel with each light pulse is slightly more noticeable in this area than it is on my ankles--the other area I'm treating--I don't even feel the snap there.) Because this device can only be used after a fresh shave, the only time I can evaluate whether or not it's actually slowing or eliminating hair growth is right BEFORE I shave again. And I have to say, the stubble is definitely lighter and sparser!!! Good stuff! I've been treating my ankles as well and the hair there is showing similar signs of improvement--but I started that treatment a few weeks after I had started my underarms. There's no reason that area shouldn't improve in a similar fashion. I like not having that "5 o' clock shadow" in my arm pits anymore! I might try treating my legs when the warmer weather is back. For now, pits and ankles are enough--I'm enjoying the annual cold-weather-no-shave period. ;) Here's the takeaway: if you are a person who feels compelled to shave often because you just can't stand stubble, this is TOTALLY for you. You're shaving anyway, might as well pass over the area with this and eventually see less hair, shave less often, and have less stubble. If you're just 'meh' about shaving, and a bit of stubble or growth doesn't bug you, this device may not be a good value for you. But a hair-free future for a fraction of the professional service price? Tempting, isn't it? :D :D :D

It was fairly easy to use after reading the instructions, and while the treatments did take some time to do, the end results have been worth it. Overall the product worked perfectly, and I no longer need to shave my legs regularly! Best thing ever.

So Simple!

I think this product is amazingly easy to use! All you need to do is plug it in and press one button to make it work. And it's fast - it only takes about 4 seconds, and then you can move the device to a new area of skin. I did all of the areas of my body that I wanted to treat in under 5 minutes!
I was surprised how well the product worked on parts of the body like knees and ankles. I had very little trouble adjusting the device and getting good contact so that it would work.
I also experienced no bad effects from using the product. (I even did a patch test first because I was so worried about my sometimes-sensitive skin, but it turns out there was no need.) I did not feel anything during the treatment or after the treatment. No itching, redness - nothing!
The product also comes with a great manual that explains how this product has been tested and studied. Any question you could possibly have is answered by the manual, so you can proceed with confidence. Overall, I'm so happy I gave it a try!
(One other thing - my IPL product came with a face buffer device which was also great. I had never tried one before and was worried that I would feel each individual bristle as it rubbed against my skin. But no - strangely enough, when you use it, it feels smooth. And it dislodged a blackhead. I'm sold!)

I tried the Gillette venus silk-expert by braun only on a small area to ensure no reaction. After 24 hours, all was well, so I decided to go for full leg with bikini. The ease of using this device versus going to an office is a big bonus.
The only fear I have is the warning not to go over freckles..as someone with many dark freckles, this was a tough challenge. I am excited to see the results before using a second time.
So far, I love this product and already shared my first experience with friends who are torn about going to a laser center or buying this device. They are waiting on my full report. So I will check back in after second treatment.

first time use impressions

I can't report on the efficacy just yet but I can tell you about the process. It is very easy to use. Not nearly as painful as I thought. I can say that the hairs that get left behind will get burned and that is what causes the black spots on the machine but if you shave or get it down to the skin you won't have that problem. I like the ease of the feature that lets you hold down the button and go for it. the only area that was tricky was the knees because it doesn't want to zap if it's not on a flat surface.

It's SO easy to use, and I actually don't mind that it's plugged in the entire time while using it - i thought that would have been annoying but it's not at all. It's so easy to use, I love the auto glide feature, and the sensitivity levels are great. I have used it many times and have noticed the following: it's about as effective as Tria 4x, but is so much quicker to use, and there is no battery that dies on me (like tria). The results I've had are incredible. I'm so impressed with this product and can't wait to use it again next week. I've told two of my girlfriends about it, and they, like me, have tried professional laser hair removal but are looking for an at-home product to use after the professional grade sessions grew back. Overall, BRAUN, YOU HAVE WON ME OVER! THANK YOU!

Easy Breezy!!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was over the moon when I was selected to take part in this campaign. I have always struggled with lots of unwanted hair and even had professional laser treatments on my forearms to get rid of it! I thoroughly read the directions before my initial use of the Gilette Venus Silk-expert and had anticipated it being painful, but was so pleasantly surprised that for the most part it wasn't! It took about 15 minutes to complete the process on both of my full legs and underarms. The only time it was a bit uncomfortable was when I used it on the bony part of my leg, near my shin bone and knees. I switched the position to the sensitive button and it lessoned the discomfort. I also changed the position of the tool so it was more vertical so that it had more contact with my skin. I also used the sensitive function on my underarms. Although I have only used this tool twice now (once a week for two weeks) I feel like I can already notice the hairs not coming back as quickly and they are softer! I am so excited to see what my legs and underarms will look like after 6 weeks!!!
