So far, so in love!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I think I'm in love! I have been using this product free from Braun in exchange for my honest opinion. It's been over 8 weeks since I first began using the Braun Venus silk-expert. I have had significant reduction in hair growth on both of my legs. Before beginning this product, I was shaving daily. I have very pale skin and very dark brown hair. I shaved constantly. Now, after more than 8 weeks of using the Silk-expert, I am only having to shave once a week and the hair is very light. Minimal growth. I still notice some patchy spots where it has been difficult to remember to match up my strokes but still not that noticeable. I can't wait to see how my legs look after the recommended 12 weeks.

Tried it out right away

This came in the mail just yesterday, 8/2/16. I watched several videos of how to operate the device and wasn't sure I really had a complete handle on the process until I got it out and tested it on my inner arm. Understanding the safety lights on the side and how to position the gun is key to using this quickly.
It works like this: first, shave the area you want to treat. Then use the gun to fire the laser light over the shaved area. Treat once a week for 12 weeks, and you'll see a reduction in hair growth, possibly permanent.
When I plugged it in, I noticed that it has a cooling vent and a fan inside that starts up as soon as the power is connected. There are two buttons on top of the gun: the larger one turns on the laser, and the second one has an icon of a feather on it. This is "gentle" mode. The difference that I noticed between the two is that "gentle" mode doesn't feel quite as hot as the regular mode.
When I say the light feels hot, it doesn't burn, but it is noticeable and a little uncomfortable at first. It kind of feels like setting a laptop on your lap and needing to move it because it's overheated. I set it to gentle mode and will probably work my way up to regular intensity over time.
This device can tell if you've positioned it correctly over your skin, and if the patch of skin you're trying to treat is an ideal color for the laser to work properly. Lights on the side of the gun turn red if you don't have a good seal (for safety purposes), and they turn white and light up incrementally the better the seal and the lighter your skin tone.
You can use it in "burst" mode, where you hold it down, then press the button once. That works great for armpits or smaller areas. There's also "glide" mode, where you hold down the gun and hold down the button, then slide it around until the next flash of light. Obviously you can't see the laser itself, but you do see a red flash and hear a "click" whenever the light goes off. I tried not to look into the flash too much.
I treated both of my legs last night in about 15 minutes. I used a concealer pencil to mark the width of the gun on my leg to create a guide, started at my ankles, and worked my way up. The concealer helps a lot.
So far, it's very easy to use! I'm interested to see how my hair growth changes over the next 12 weeks.

First time using the Gillette® Venus® Silk-expert

Following the instructions, I shaved my legs (which is something I hate doing, which explains my excitement for this product) and dried them with a towel.
I have gone through laser treatments before so knew what to expect as far as pain. The Gillette® Venus® Silk-expert did not hurt at all! I felt a very mild snap, some areas are obviously worse than the others so using the sensitive mode in these areas helps a lot.
The treatment didn't take very long and the gliding mode is great.
My only issue is that there's no good way of knowing what areas I've already gone through. I am considering using a white makeup pencil to mark sections on my legs and allow me to track the areas i've already treated.
Looking forward to the next treatment!

Venus Silk Expert is out of this world!!!

I've been using it for eight weeks now and I am happy to say that I can go a week without shaving and only have some light stubble when I do! It is so easy to do and it is very convenient that you only need to use it once a week in order to see great results! With continued use over the next month or so, I can tell already that soon I won't have to shave anymore! (OK, maybe occasionally but that's way better than shaving every other day!) I'm very excited about that. It's also pain-free which makes the treatments a breeze! Thanks Braun!

I am not hair free but I am shaving less and the hair seems to be thinner. I would definitely recommend this product I love it!

PCOS Woman's Dream

I have fairly light skin and dark coarse hair (mostly due to PCOS), so I was excited to try this product. The packaging is very nice and you can tell they took time designing it. The unit itself looks flimsy in the pictures, but once you have it in your hand it does have some weight to it, which makes it feel sturdy and reliable. Once I started using it I loved the ease of use overall, but I do wish it had an On/Off button instead of powering on when you plug it in. I used it under my arms in the spot mode and on my legs in the glide mode, and both worked well. There is a slight odor of burning hair and a slight zap (no worse than a rubberband). You also can not use it where you have tattoos, so this may be a drawback to some. Overall I was impressed with the first run and can't wait to use it in the weeks ahead. The facial brush that it came with made my face feel clean and opened my pores. I would recommend this combo to anyone who has unwanted body hair. I do wish there was a feature for the neck and face to get rid of those unwanted hair as well!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So, I got my new Venus Silk-Expert in the mail right before my vacation. Score! It came in a big box and also included a facial cleansing brush. I was pretty excited because I figured I could bring it along to see how both performed on the go. I'm not going to lie. I immediately took it out of the box, read the directions, then headed to the bathroom to shave my legs. Before you can use the Silk-expert, you have to be shaved, or at least have no protruding hairs from the area you intend to treat. After drying off, I took my Venus for a spin, not knowing what to expect. It was pretty easy! It was definitely warm, not hot, and the flashes were bright. I tried both gliding and also manually treating, and I felt manual was actually faster, but I was looking at the area I was treating a lot. I wish that they had included sunglasses and a razor instead of the facial brush. I found it easy to reach all the spots I wanted to treat, especially in manual mode. I have treated my entire right leg twice, my left leg once and my bikini area twice. I was just going to do the right leg to see how it worked by comparison, but I already saw righty had less hair than lefty after 1 treatment, so I went ahead and went for lefty. Hey, it's still summer!
I will definitely be updating my review to let you know how it turns out after 12 weeks of treatments!

Not so great for course hair but may work better over a longer period of treatment time

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After using the Venus Silk-expert, provided for free to try by Braun, on my underarms only since August, I have noticed some results. The hair seems to grow back thinner but it still grows back. I have very course hair so maybe that is why? I am going to continue using it and hope that eventually the hair will stop growing in. I was really hoping for better results. Be sure that you shave thoroughly, if there's a little stubble it can give off a burnt hair smell. It can also irritate the skin as well so you may need to adjust the power settings. Something else that would be helpful would be some type of eye protection to wear while using it since the light is SO bright I wonder about it damaging my eyes. Definitely a product worth trying it, it may work better for someone with finer hair.
