[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was given this product from Braun to give my honest opinion and feedback. I have fairly light skin and dark coarse hair (mostly due to PCOS), so I was excited to try this product. The packaging is very nice and you can tell they took time designing it. The unit itself looks flimsy in the pictures, but once you have it in your hand it does have some weight to it, which makes it feel sturdy and reliable. Once I started using it I loved the ease of use overall, but I do wish it had an On/Off button instead of powering on when you plug it in. I used it under my arms in the spot mode and on my legs in the glide mode, and both worked well. There is a slight odor of burning hair and a slight zap (no worse than a rubberband). You also can not use it where you have tattoos, so this may be a drawback to some. Overall I was impressed with the first run and can't wait to use it in the weeks ahead. The facial brush that it came with made my face feel clean and opened my pores. I would recommend this combo to anyone who has unwanted body hair. I do wish there was a feature for the neck and face to get rid of those unwanted hair as well!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So, I got my new Venus Silk-Expert in the mail right before my vacation. Score! It came in a big box and also included a facial cleansing brush. I was pretty excited because I figured I could bring it along to see how both performed on the go. I'm not going to lie. I immediately took it out of the box, read the directions, then headed to the bathroom to shave my legs. Before you can use the Silk-expert, you have to be shaved, or at least have no protruding hairs from the area you intend to treat. After drying off, I took my Venus for a spin, not knowing what to expect. It was pretty easy! It was definitely warm, not hot, and the flashes were bright. I tried both gliding and also manually treating, and I felt manual was actually faster, but I was looking at the area I was treating a lot. I wish that they had included sunglasses and a razor instead of the facial brush. I found it easy to reach all the spots I wanted to treat, especially in manual mode. I have treated my entire right leg twice, my left leg once and my bikini area twice. I was just going to do the right leg to see how it worked by comparison, but I already saw righty had less hair than lefty after 1 treatment, so I went ahead and went for lefty. Hey, it's still summer!
I will definitely be updating my review to let you know how it turns out after 12 weeks of treatments!

Not so great for course hair but may work better over a longer period of treatment time

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After using the Venus Silk-expert, provided for free to try by Braun, on my underarms only since August, I have noticed some results. The hair seems to grow back thinner but it still grows back. I have very course hair so maybe that is why? I am going to continue using it and hope that eventually the hair will stop growing in. I was really hoping for better results. Be sure that you shave thoroughly, if there's a little stubble it can give off a burnt hair smell. It can also irritate the skin as well so you may need to adjust the power settings. Something else that would be helpful would be some type of eye protection to wear while using it since the light is SO bright I wonder about it damaging my eyes. Definitely a product worth trying it, it may work better for someone with finer hair.

Amazing and convenient!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have done some laser hair removal in the past and this was so much more convenient! It was easy to do at home and took minimal time. And it worked! After a few weeks, the hair regrowth has lessened, to basically nothing. I am so happy- my legs are smooth and I don't need to worry anymore about shaving. I can just throw on a skirt without worrying about my legs being smooth. I've already told my friends about it, I am so pleased.

This was very intimidating at first. The instructions were very confusing as the booklet jumped around. The device itself, after I figured out the instructions and how to use it I found it very simple. It has just been a week, but I am still very smooth. There was no pain except under my arms and even there it was very slight. All and all, so far, I love it! I can't wait to continue!

No more shaving? Yes, please!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the Gillette Venus Silk-expert 5008 free from Braun. I have been shaving for too many years to count and have tried waxing as well as creams. I have never tried Intense Pulse Light technology and was very eager to try this product in the comfort of my home!
Prior to trying the product, I read the instruction multiple times. I was a little concerned with how many precautions there were. One of the precautions is to not use on sunburned skin. It struck me as odd to try this product during the summer when the chances of having a sunburn are so much higher. I also did not realize it would only work best on darker hair. Luckily, the hair on my legs and underarms is quite dark!
Per the instructions, I tried the Silk-expert on a small patch of skin on my underarm after shaving to make sure I did not have a bad reaction. Setting up and using the product was very easy. I did not know what to expect regarding the sensation. It does not hurt but does give you a bit of a jolt. Definitely not unbearable.
I waited 24 hours and it seemed as though I was good to go! I then used the product on my entire underarms and legs. The process was very quick and very easy. You are not supposed to treat the same area twice. This was a bit difficult to determine because you are not supposed to look at the light and it is hard to remember where you had last placed the device. I used the gliding setting for my legs and the one pulse for my arms.
While I haven't seen major results yet (after only one time, I am not expecting a miracle!), I did notice my stubble seemed less after the initial application. I am looking forward to see what will occur after the 12 week period!
On a side note, Braun also provided a face-cleansing brush. I have never used one before and I LOVE it! I use in the shower right after cleaning my face. The bristles work magic on my pores and my skin feels much smoother!

I have dark hair, and regrow th becomes visible the day after I shave, so this product was a perfect choice for me. I love the style of it. It's got a sleek finish & is easy to hold/maneuver. It does take some time to use over large areas, such as the legs, but once you get the hang of it, you can easily use it while watching tv or relaxing on the couch. As far as pain level, I was pleasantly surprised. I would not say it causes any pain. It is a little uncomfortable the first couple of times you hit the button, however I became used to it pretty quickly, and I didn't experience any discomfort while using it or after use. At this point (having used it a few weeks), I would recommend it. I will review again in a few weeks to update on progress and effectiveness.
