I'm REALLY impressed!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I cannot believe I'm saying this, but the Venus Silk-expert is at least as good as professional laser treatments. A couple of years ago, I got laser treatments to remove hair in a couple of different places and it worked okay, but some of it has come back. It's so expensive, that I haven't gone back to have any touch-ups done or to do any new areas.
The Venus Silk-expert is really reasonably priced, compared to getting laser removal done by a professional. And, you only have to pay once for it; you can use it at your convenience and any time that you see that you need to redo particular areas. It is small enough that you could take it with you on a trip too.
There are only two cons, that I can see. One, it won't work for everyone. It is not recommended for people with very dark skin or very light hair. I have very light skin and very dark hair, so it works great for me. Two, you aren't supposed to use it on your face. I was surprised by this, as that is one area that many would like to use this for.
The machine itself is really easy to use. You just plug it in, place it again your skin, and press a button. It does burn just a tiny bit, but not as much as I expected... and certainly not as much as a professional laser wand.
I have been using it about once a week, sometimes every six days, for the past few weeks. And I have seen definite results from the Venus Silk-expert already. I decided to do a couple different areas, so that I could see how well it worked. On my underarms, I now have less than half of the hair than I used to. On my legs, I did one area on each leg and left an area untouched, so that I could see the difference. The sections on which I used the Venus Silk-expert have almost no hair at all now.
It really is amazing and I am recommending it to everyone I can think of. I really hope the machine itself lasts for a really long time. I'm hooked. I can't wait to see the difference between now and a couple more weeks from now.

Time Consuming

I really want to like the Gillette Venus Silk-expert but I'm having a hard time. I was thrilled when my package arrived. The weekend after it did, I shaved my legs and then did the 24 hour test. Generally I don't have sensitive skin, but I didn't want to take any chances, so I went ahead and did 3 little areas to make sure my skin could handle the Gillette Venus Silk-expert. At first I was *very* nervous to push the activate button for fear that it would hurt (remember the epilady??). I finally just did it and was pleasantly surprised that there was no pain. I did feel some heat, though, but it went away after a second or two. After waiting for 24 hours, everything was okay with my leg area so I got the Gillette Venus Silk-expert back out the next night and was super excited to go to town and do both of my legs...let's get this party started! Wrong. I think I did maybe 10 little sections and I was done. In some of the areas I felt nothing, not even the heat but then in some of the areas I felt a stinging sensation. It was enough for me to call it quits for the night. I debated for a bit on getting the Gillette Venus Silk-expert back out and starting over, however after deliberating for a while, I decided that this device probably just wasn't for me. At the rate I am going and the size of my legs, it's going to take me a good hour or two to get it all done...and to do that once a week for at least 12 weeks - that's just not me. While I despise shaving (the #1 reason I was excited to try this product), I think that is going to remain my hair removal method of choice for now.

First run trial

I was *so* excited to get the Gillette Venus Silk-expert! I immediately opened it up, and assembled all the parts--it even came with a bonus facial brush--and got all ready to try it out.
Assembly: it's very easy to assemble. There are two separate cords to attach to the device and to the power source, and then the instructions are very clear (and thorough) for the first trial. The cords aren't long, but long enough that you can see in the mirror as you use it, which is helpful for hard-to-see areas like underarms.
Trial run: They recommend a test patch, so that's what I did, in two separate areas, underarm and bikini. After cleansing and shaving the area, then patting dry, I activated the device, pressed it into the area, waited for the lights to appear to signify readiness, and pushed the button quickly--this is suggested for smaller, more precise areas. There was a quick bright pulse of light and accompanying noise, and then done--approximately a second. It felt kind of like a rubber band snap on your skin--a quick snap, then over, and not painful. On my underarm, it was a bit tough to ensure a close, full skin contact just because of the contours of that underarm, but I felt like I just needed to get used to it.
After: After the initial trial, there were two of the four areas that continued to feel a bit tender, but nothing that was bothersome at all. The next day, there was a bit of pinkness--seriously nothing I'd notice if I wasn't looking, and honestly I'm not sure if it was from shaving or the Silk-expert! Now that I've waited 24 hours, I'll give it a full test and report back.
Note: I'm only giving it three stars because I haven't seen any results yet--but so far, so good!

Silk expert rocks!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got the Gillette Venus silk expert four weeks ago. I have used it once a week since then for a total of 4 times. I noticed a difference in how fast my hair grew back after the second use. I am in love with this thing. I have tried other at home hair lasers in the past and they hurt!! And the area covered is the size of a dime. The area covered with this product is huge. It only takes minutes to do my entire leg. Love love love this. I can't wait to see what the full 12 weeks results will be.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using the Gillette Venus Silk Expert IPL hair removal system for about 4 weeks now on my legs and 2 weeks on my underarms. I am still a little nervous to use on my bikini area. The directions are very easy to follow and I love that it adapts to your skin tones. The device is not recommended for use on red, grey, or blonde hair. All hair must be removed before you can use this. The area should be clean and dry. It does sting a little but not too bad. The feeling is gone shortly after stopping the treatment. I have already noticed a difference in my legs. The hair takes longer to grow back and fewer hair in certain areas.

Venus Silk-expert is pretty good

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using the Venus Silk-expert for several weeks now. It is not as painful as I thought it would be. There is some slight stinging (possibly from the heat of the laser???)....not really sure, but it is not unbearable and completely doable. Let's just say it certainly didn't deter me from using it. I originally wanted to use this on my legs. Over the years, my hair growth has slowed, so my thinking was that if I could prevent it / slow it even more, it would be ideal. As I read the user guide, however, it said I cannot use it on any area that has a tattoo. I didn't want to have uneven hair growth on my legs, so I quickly changed my original plan. I decided to use it on my underarms. I tend to have to shave about 2 times a week for socially acceptable growth that shows (or doesn't show). Sometimes I'd do it every day if I were wearing tank tops in the summer. Since this was in the winter, I wasn't shaving as much, so I had more hair growth in that area over time. I was VERY pleasantly surprised at how much the hair growth not only slowed, but barely was there. the hairs that did grow weren't as coarse or thick. I have to admit that I was very skeptical about using this product and assumed I'd still have to shave as much or just a little less, but that wasn't the case at all. It's not something I would have purchased on my own, but it is something I will definitely recommend to friends and family!

UnBoxing and First Use

I first look the box is sleek, vibrant and the packaging was kept to a minimum. Inside was the Venus Silk Expert Unit, charging cords, instruction booklet and in a separate box the exfoliating brush. Immediately I read through the instruction booklet because I did not want to delay the potential results for this product. It says to try on a test spot, so I shaved as I normally do as per instructions, plugged the unit in and once I understood the mechanics-fired away a few times.
After waiting a couple days on how the test spot did and without any adverse reactions I decided to go big. I shaved my legs and tonight tried the application on my biggest shaving pain.
It is SO easy to use, it takes patience since there are not immediate results but I am hoping for the best. The only issue thus far besides time (waiting for smooth legs) is you are not supposed to look at the light as it flashes. It is hard to do, simply because I wanted to make sure I was lining up my light bursts. It was like I was a moth to a flame, so take your time don't press the treatment button until you are looking away.
Now the wait...I am giddy with the idea of not having to shave...SO giddy!!

Better results than expected

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using Gillette® Venus® Silk-expert powered by Braun® for 8 weeks now and I am really impressed with the results I have seen. I have used it on my legs, arms, hands, and bikini area. My bikini area and arms have shown the best results. I used to have shave my bikini line ever other day. Now, the hair barely grows and if it does, it's likely because I have missed spots because hair is only in certain spots. Hair used to appear on my arms after a week. Now, it is at least 2 weeks before I even see hair and it is in spots here as well. I can't remember the last time I shaved my arms.
Using this product on my legs is a little difficult because of how it is shaped. It also takes a lot of time and I always feel like I'm not getting every inch of my legs. My thighs are looking really good. I barely have to shave here now and even if there is hair, it is barely noticeable. I have to shave my lower legs often still (maybe every 2/3 days). It is spotty though and I can see an improvement. Because of the difficulty in getting to all areas, my legs have been difficult to see huge improvements on.
The one thing that bothers me about this product is the bright red light. I understand this is something that cannot be helped, but it might be nice to have glasses included with the product. I don't know if the light can cause eye damage, but it would awesome to not feel like it is.
Overall, I absolutely love this product and would recommend it to anyone thinking of purchasing it. It has made me feel better about how I look and saved me a ton of time. I also love the smooth feeling it gives me now between shaves.
