[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been using this X1C9 for two days and so far, and I am very pleased with it. The trackpad is the smoothest I have ever used, significantly smoother than my last 2 laptops (MBPs). It is much smaller, I'd say 3.5 times smaller than what I am used to but after using it I realized that I never use the whole trackpad; I just use a small zone in it so I haven't felt any impact from the much smaller surface. I love the 4K screen, it looks great and is on par with other HiDPI I have used in terms of glossiness. The unit came with Windows but I have not used it and installed Ubuntu 20.04 right away which was flawless. I expected to have to boot some kind of custom utility to update the BIOS and was stunned at the fact that you can do it right from the Ubuntu Software application (reboot is required of course)! Everything worked first try: bluetooth, fingerprint, webcam, plugging external screen, etc. Also, the fans are super quiet.
Now, of course, there are also some downsides. What I was most disappointed about is that the unit came with a bulky power adapter instead of the slim one that I saw in the youtube reviews. That was a big let down for me. The trackpad is the smoothest thing but I wish it was haptic instead of the more dated hinge design as clicking near the top is much harder than the bottom. The surface is such that oil from your hands is very visible on it. I'm not a fan of the placement of the PgUp and PgDn keys but I'll probably get used to it. Lastly, the time you have to hold the power button for a hard shutdown is a little long (10 seconds?) but as you can see I'm really searching hard to find downsides.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my second X1 Carbon. I used my last one for 8 years and it’s still running. I had to give it up because of the battery life. I love my new X1 so far, high resolution, speedy starting and light-weight.
