Fantastic Turf Builder!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After using this grass seed, I’m extremely impressed! The first thing I love about this product is how effective it is. Within just a few weeks, my lawn began to get multiple new grass blades. After just a couple more weeks, I had a full, beautiful lawn. The lawn also grows very quickly, allowing me to regularly cut it to keep it looking fresh! Finally, I really appreciated how detailed the instructions on the bag were. This made it easy to spread the seed. Overall, I’m extremely pleased and would highly recommend this product.

Repairing bald spots in lawn

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this grass seed to fix bare spots in my yard. Started by dethatching the area and adding sandy loam topsoil, spread seed and covered with straw. Took about 2 weeks to start growing but has filled in fast in most places. Has been holding up well to my dog and the weather.

Terrible seed, Never Germinated & Waste of Money

I bought a 2.4 lb. bag of the Scotts Turf Builder Sun & Shade mix, placed it on loose soil, tapped it down and watered twice a day for 2 weeks and not one seed germinated. Last year I bought the same product and over-seeded my lawn and bare patches, watered twice a day and I was very happy with the results. In looking at the seed in the most recent bag, I noticed it did not have blue coated seeds. I also noted that the ingredients included over 52% inert matter, other crop seed and weed seed. Very disappointed

I don’t think I would buy again

We bought this for our lawn and we have so many huge patches of clover. Did get some grass but also have a lot of bald areas. Majority of what grew is clover though.

Disappointed

I bought a bag of this and it did not work at all. Nothing grew. I worked the soil after my lawn was cut but the grass seed down raked and watered the grass. Nothing grew. Very disappointed. I will figure something out for next year.

Depending on conditions and the seed type, the grass can take from 6 to 14 days to start to germinate. Germination requires air temperatures consistently above 65 degrees F. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Cold weather will delay germination but will not hurt the seed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. If a weed control is used around the time of seeding, it will either prevent the seeds from germination outright or destroy the seedlings as they emerge.

Letdown

Scotts is my go to, you know what you’re going to get. But this last bag I bought did not seem to germinate. I bought a large bag of sun&shade and high traffic. Planted both bags in separate areas of my yard. The bag with the high traffic mix did what every other bag I’ve bought of Scott has done. Grew like a weed. The sun in shade did not seem to germinate and was a letdown.
