We are sorry that you have experienced problems while using Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. It is certainly frustrating to go to the work of reseeding an area, only to have the results less than satisfactory.
Water is an important factor in successful seeding and seeds must come into direct contact with the soil in order to germinate.. The newly seeded areas must be kept constantly moist for weeks on end. Allowing the soil to dry out even for an hour during the critical germination phase can result in seedling death. This may require that you give the seeded areas a light watering two to three times a day for the first few weeks. After that, you will still need to keep the seedlings watered on a regular basis. The soil should feel moist like a wrung out sponge.
Temperature plays a critical role in seed germination. Soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit (13 degrees Celsius) for northern type turf grass seed to germinate (Bluegrass, ryegrass, fescue). Air temperature must typically be between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit (15-26 degrees Celsius).

Sun and Shade mix fail

Ordered this product with high hopes to reseed my lawn and to fill in several bare spots. This product did not hold up it's end of the bargain. Raked the entire yard before and after seeding and have been giving proper amounts of water daily. Without question, over 80% of the seeds have not produced and it's been 3 weeks already, thousands of blue grass seeds are still visible. Absolute waste of my $100 for the 40# bag. Used an off brand seed right after and those seedlings are taking off. Off brand was half the price but twice the product.
Pros: Easy to Use
Cons: Didn't work as expected
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We are sorry that you have experienced problems while using Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. It is certainly frustrating to go through all the work of reseeding an area, only to have the results less than satisfactory. Undoubtedly you will be doing reseeding projects in the future, and I just want to give you a few tips that have been helpful to some of our consumers.
Two enemies of newly seeded lawns are herbicides and lawn diseases. While you have very little control over the outbreak of a lawn disease, do make sure that no weed control or weed prevention chemical has been used in the area, as those products will also prevent or inhibit germination. When used on newly germinated lawns, herbicides will kill off the new grass.
Also, temperature plays a critical role in seed germination. Southern seed types (bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, bahiagrass, etc) need soil temperatures of at least 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celsius), with air temperatures in the 80's or higher (21 degrees Celsius or above). Seeds will not germinate if the temperatures are cold at night, or are fluctuating from high day temperature to very low night time temperatures. Very hot weather will also inhibit seed germination.
We want you to be confident in our products, this is why we offer a product guarantee. If you would like to further discuss this, please contact us here: http://tinyurl.com/mds8zo5

I had a huge weed problem bad Fescue was about 20% my yard (3/4 arces) I used round up on the areas and 7-9 days later dug up every spot took me about a week to do, then stating the re-seeding I used Scotts® Turf Builder® Sun & Shade Mix® + Scotts® Turf Builder® Lawn Soil I water every 8 hours with an auto timer and in 5 days I see nice green grass coming up. It has been 8 days now and the grass is about an inch tall. I LOVE SCOTTS!!
Pros: Quality, Easy to Use, Good Directions, Effective
Cons: little pricey but worth it.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have small section of grass between my house and neighbors fence. Almost no sun and my gutter water run off. I raked the area and applied the Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. Within a week I noticed the grass was starting to grow. I look forward to a great looking lawn for the Spring and Summer. A bonus is the seed doesn't have to be watered every day.
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Good Directions, Quality, Value

We are sorry that you have experienced problems while using Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. Generally, we recommend seeding in late spring when temperatures are warm not only during the day, but at night also.
Temperature plays a critical role in seedling germination. Soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees F for northern type turfgrass seed to germinate. For best results, daytime temperatures must typically be in the 60-80 degree F. range and not going below 50 degrees F at night. Seeds will not germinate if the temperatures are cold at night, or are fluctuating from high day temperature to very low night time temperatures.
One major "enemy" of a newly seeded lawn is herbicide. Make sure that no weed control or weed prevention product has been used in the area, as those products will also prevent or inhibit germination. When used on newly germinated lawns, herbicides will kill off the new grass.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really was impressed with this grass seed sun and shade mix. I have an area that is very shady and the rest is full sun so didn't know what to use I came across this Scotts turf builder sun and shade mix. So I tried it and was very happy with it. Not only did the grass grow in the shady area but it came in so thick! I love it and I tell anyone who will listen how great this seed mix is.
