[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had relied on this product for many years to both reseed bare spots in my yard and to seen new areas on other properties. Two years ago I got caught up in some of the advertising for competitor products and believing the claims, gave them a try. I was very disappointed in the results and switched back to Scotts last year where I once again got the results that I was used to seeing.
Pros: Quality, Easy to Use, Effective

Not Good results

My lawn took a beating in the extreme drought this summer. I needed to replace about 35-40% of my lawn. I have used this exact product twice before with excellent results, but this time very little of anything sprouted. I seeded following the direction exactly, as I did the previous times, and watered regularly. 4 1/2 weeks later and very little progress. It is now getting too late to try again this year, so I will have to wait until the spring.
Cons: Didn't work as expected
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We are sorry to hear the seed didn't come up and hope you'll get in touch with us about a refund. Although this is an excellent seeding product, even if you do everything right there are still environmental factors that can play a role in the success of a seeding project. Our seed is coated to help it survive dry conditions, but inconsistent soil temperature, herbicides, and lawn diseases can also play a role.

We'll be here to help if you want expert advice in the spring!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product worked very well on bald spots in our backyard. There are numerous trees with lots of shade and this is the only product which seemed to help grow the grass back in those areas.
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Quality

After doing research on grass seed and seeing how Scotts was a reputable company with decent reviews, we decided to go with Sun & Shade mix. Following their instructions to the letter! After TWO WEEKS, we still had little to no growth!! We decided to test a different seed to see if it could be our soil, we went to the feed store and bought the cheapest seed they had. The feed store seed grew quick and lush! We won't be using Scotts again for any of our lawn care needs.
Cons: Didn't work as expected

We are sorry that you have experienced problems while using Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. Generally, we recommend seeding in late spring when temperatures are warm not only during the day, but at night also.

Temperature plays a critical role in seedling germination. Soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees F for northern type turfgrass seed to germinate. For best results, daytime temperatures must typically be in the 60-80 degree F. range and not going below 50 degrees F at night. Seeds will not germinate if the temperatures are cold at night, or are fluctuating from high day temperature to very low night time temperatures.

One major "enemy" of a newly seeded lawn is herbicide. Make sure that no weed control or weed prevention product has been used in the area, as those products will also prevent or inhibit germination. When used on newly germinated lawns, herbicides will kill off the new grass.

We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience please contact us to see what can be done. You may visit our contact page by clicking on the following link http://tinyurl.com/7ag7a3n

Wait till soil is about 55 degrees, plant seed and cover lightly with mulch and wait about three weeks and you have grass. Wait till about 3 to 4 inch's tall and then mow.
