[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It’s all in the prep.... this is quality seed. Make sure to amend the soil with a fertilizer and keep the area watered and moist until you have a 3” height. Over seed as needed to keep pace with the birds grabbing some dinner. Amazing results in just 14-21 day’s .....
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Good Directions, Value, amazing results

Excellent Grass Seed Staple

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This has been an excellent seed for most of our yard areas. This is amazing due to the fact we live on a clay lot. The grass has taken hold and is doing well in tough terrain, for the exception of specific areas. I would recommend for many people.
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Quality

completely unsatisfied with scotts product

I purchased a house in northeast ma a year ago that had spotty areas of dead grass. I treated the lawn immediately with scotts grub control and also added lime. Twice a year i add lime no other treatments. Fast forward a year later i wanted to grow grass in the dead areas in my front lawn that has morning sun and afternoon shade. I tried to grow grass in 2 separate areas. The 1st was the 2nd week in may and the 2nd area was the 2nd week in june. 1st area, Raked out the dead grass added some loom and a top layer of scotts turf builder lawn soil then placed the scotts turf builder grass seed sun and shade mix on top. I followed the direction thoroughly. Watered the area as directed. Even checked the soil for moisture each morning 1 inch down to ensure it was receiving enough water. A few blades of grass sporadically grew and about 90% of the treated area had no grass. It is now june 21st so the 1st area is a complete failure. Now during may there was a few nights that got close to the minimum temperature requirement per stated on the bag so i gave scotts the benefit of the doubt. Now to the 2nd area treated. Treated 1st week in june, temperatures are now optimum with the stated requirements. This time i treated half the 2nd area with just plain loom and the other half with loom and the last bag of scotts turf builder lawn soil followed by the seed.i have been watering the seed as required and not one blade of grass has come up. I am going to give it another week. My brother in law seeded his entire back yard with a top competitors brand a few weeks ago and he has full grass coming up. I will be trying the brand he used this fall. I am completely dissapointed with the scotts product. I am out 3 bags of scotts turf builder lawns soil and additional loom i purchased. Scotts has lost a customer here. I didnt keep my receipt so ill be bringing the opened bag of grass seed back to the store and will demand a credit be placed back on my credit card.

We are sorry that you experienced problems while using Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. We understand the frustration of putting forth the effort to prepare and seed an area and end up disappointed. Grass seeds can often succumb to environmental factors such as disease, insects, or extremes of temperature and moisture. This is not necessarily evidence of inferior grass seed, as even superior grass types are subject to natural stresses.

Whatever the reason for this lacking result, we want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Don't let the price scare you away. Yes, it's more expensive than others, but it works so much better than them that you use less - so in the long run, it's actually cheaper (and much easier to use).
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Good Directions, Value, Quality

I have used Scott's at a prior residence and have had good success. I moved to a new house and decided to tackle a yard restoration. We have 2 1/2 acres now and about an acre needed to be reseeded. I was diligent about watering and this seed's performance was horrible. I even had the top 3" of our clay soil replaced with quality screened top soil. A lot of money in prep, top soil, seed and fertilizer was wasted. I will definitely be buying a different product when I decide to redo all of my hard work.
Pros: Easy to Use, Good Directions
Cons: Didn't work as expected

We are sorry that you have experienced problems while using Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. Generally, we recommend seeding in late spring when temperatures are warm not only during the day, but at night also.

Temperature plays a critical role in seedling germination. Soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees F for northern type turfgrass seed to germinate. For best results, daytime temperatures must typically be in the 60-80 degree range and not going below 50 degrees F at night. Seeds will not germinate if the temperatures are cold at night, or are fluctuating from high day temperature to very low night time temperatures.

Two "enemies" of newly seeded lawns are herbicides and lawn diseases. While you have very little control over the outbreak of a lawn disease, do make sure that no weed control or weed prevention chemical has been used in the area, as those products will also prevent or inhibit germination. When used on newly germinated lawns, herbicides will kill off the new grass.

We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience please contact us to see what can be done. You may visit our contact page by clicking on the following link http://tinyurl.com/7ag7a3n
