Pros: Effective, just keep moist
Cons: birds and squirrels love the seed

About 50% germ rate

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A good part of the seeds go to waste. I have planted in the fall and some comes up. In the late spring I can see the blue seeds here and there. I have bought this for many years and have wised up. Buy another brand of grass seed.
Cons: Didn't work as expected

We're sorry to hear that you didn't get the germination you expected, Woody99. Seeds must come into direct contact with the soil in order to germinate. According to our Research Department, if seed is laid on top of old grass, you will have about a 2% germination rate. If you are seeding over an old lawn, we recommend that you rent a slit seeder. If this is not possible, vigorously rake the existing turf, or add a shallow layer of topsoil to the yard prior to seeding. The seed also needs exposure to sunlight. A heavy cover of straw, soil, or other material will cause the seeds to rot, or severely limit germination. Cover seeds with no more than 1/4 of an inch (.63 centimeter) of topsoil or lawn soil.

Very unhappy with this product, varies a lot from bag to bag

I was sold on the technology of the blue coating, but in reality found this is really variable product. This time my lawn was covered with just broadleaf grass where ever I sowed it. It’s a much lighter green color than the previous few bags that I sowed the original lawn with (even though it’s the same brand and sun/shade mix) and it’s growing much faster than my regular grass - it’s all a broadleaf grass. I presume the batch wasn’t properly mixed up and now think I may have to rotavate my lawn and start again... unhappy customer and feel that Scott’s have really let me down.

When grass is young and newly germinated, it is immature and will have a different color and texture than established grass. Regular mowing and fertilizing will help it mature to its proper color and texture. 3 Days For Grass

I prepared the soil with heavy raking with a metal garden rake quickly to about a half inch depth. I applied the seed with a rotary spreader set on 14, the recommended setting for new lawn. I then lightly raked the areas again. Watered until wet then, water again the following night, rain early that morning, watered the third evening and noticed grass blades 1.5 cm in height.

Turf Builder Grass Seed

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have tried using other grass seeds and none seemed to work. I then tried Scotts grass seed and I was able to grow grass. I will not use any other brand I now use Scotts when I get bare spots and have no issues. This product is great!!

Not all worked

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I seeded this seed 20 days ago and with water and warm weather some of the seed did not germinate. It is easy to see the seed because of the blue color. This is first product from Scotts that was not great.
Pros: Easy to Use, Good Directions
Cons: Didn't work as expected, also it would not cover 1200 square feet
