[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Used this product on an area 10x20. Its an area that is between my house and my neighbors garage. It gets more shade than direct sunlight. But, it worked real well. After 2 months, you would never know I had problems with this area.
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Good Directions, Value, Quality
I would recommend this to a friend!

I purchased a 20# bag of this seed to seed a less than 5000 sq ft area. I spread the seed in two directions then used a lightly held rake to make sure the seed was covered with dirt. I then reseeded again and rolled the area that had three seedings. Used starter fertilizer, lime to the amount that was required. The area is up and has been mowed two times. There are open areas where there is NO grass, also there are more weeds than I expected.
I'm just not excited about the product, I expected more.
Pros: Easy to Use
Cons: Didn't work as expected

We are sorry that you have experienced problems while using Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. It is certainly frustrating to go to the work of reseeding an area, only to have the results less than satisfactory. Undoubtedly you will be doing reseeding projects in the future, and I just want to give you a few tips that have been helpful to some of our consumers.

Water is an important factor in successful seeding. The newly seeded areas must be kept constantly moist for weeks on end. Allowing the soil to dry out even for an hour during the critical germination phase can result in seedling death. This may require that you give the seeded areas a light watering two to three times a day for the first few weeks. After that, you will still need to keep the seedlings watered on a regular basis. The soil should feel moist like a wrung out sponge.

Seeds must come into direct contact with the soil in order to germinate. We suggest to vigorously rake the existing turf, or add a shallow layer of topsoil to the yard prior to seeding. Seed also needs exposure to sunlight. A heavy cover of straw, soil, or other material will cause the seeds to rot, or severely limit germination. Cover seeds "three straws thick", or with no more than 1/4 of an inch (.63 centimeter) with topsoil.

Two "enemies" of newly seeded lawns are herbicides and lawn diseases. While you have very little control over the outbreak of a lawn disease, do make sure that no weed control or weed prevention chemical has been used in the area, as those products will also prevent or inhibit germination. When used on newly germinated lawns, herbicides will kill off the new grass.

Finally, temperature plays a critical role in seedling germination. Soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit (13 degrees Celsius)for northern type turfgrass seed to germinate.

We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience please contact us to see what can be done. You may visit our contact page by clicking on the following link http://tinyurl.com/7ag7a3n
