I bought this and applied it on September 17th. I overseeded the lawn WITHOUT dethatching the lawn. However, I used Scott's topsoil to fill in some of my craters. In these areas, the seedings did not do too well. I'm fixing to get some humus/manure before winter to address this as the whole lawn is essentially bone dry of nutrients. Up to this point the lawn has southern grass in it, but I'm preferring the northern variety of grass - it can get really cold here in Cincinnati Ohio! If you have hard dry soil, add some humus manure to it before seeding.

I have used all the Scott’s products on my lawn and had the best looking yard on the block people would stop and ask me what i was using and i said Scott’s fertilizer and grass seed.

Very disappointed in sun & shade grass seed.

Last spring I spread Scott’s sun & shade grass seed over a 100 square yard area in my lawn. The seed was planted in fresh lawn soil. During the summer and fall, the location looked wonderful. Now this spring, the area is dead as it was before I seeded it. I followed all instructions, and I am very disappointed. It’s like there wasn’t any perennial seed in the mixture. I paid more, thinking Scott’s seed was reputable, but I’m thinking I was mistaken.

Use premium seed (Lesco blend) instead.

Bought the large bag hoping to seed a somewhat shady area in my backyard. For whatever reason, germination on growth was poor. Wish I could return but three out the bag and receipt. My recommendation is to buy Lesco which I used for my front yard which grew great.

The worst

Have been a faithful user until they changed to "combo." The worst possible product. Grass did not grow, weeds flourished and finally found the original just seed. If I can't find just the seed in the future, I will have to change to a new company's product. Just the worst.

When making the application, this grass seed germinates best when soil temperatures are above 55°F and air temperatures are consistently above 60°F. In the spring, it takes a lot of consistently warm temperatures to warm up the soil. Any weed control used prior to seeding, such as using the crabgrass preventer, will prevent seed from germinating. It can also take 6-14 days to notice results, but up to a month for all the seeds to germinate.

Scotts sun and shade mix Absolute garbage good weather watered daily very poor germination rate waste of time and money will never buy again
