Does not work!

I bought 3 bags of Scotts Patchmaster. Put it down on bare patches left due to recent construction. Prepared soil, watered daily. All I got for my efforts after a month and a half was matted down damp newspaper. NO GRASS. Was there even seed in there?! Can I give it zero stars? I'm done with you Scotts. I'll take my money and my business elsewhere.
Cons: Didn't work as expected
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We apologize for the inconvenience you’ve experienced when using the product. This particular product usually has a lot of success stories from users, but it is helpful when we get reviews like yours to help us produce quality product. For Cool Season grasses like Bluegrass, Ryegrass, and different types of Fescues soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees (+12.7 Celsius) for grass seed to germinate and can take between 4 -21 days to see germination. Warm season grasses like Bermudagrass, Centipede and Zoysia, which germinates in early summer, requires soil temperatures between 75 - 90 degrees (24 - 32 Celsius) and can take between 5-28 days to see visible germination. Watering also plays a defining factor in germination. We recommend watering 1-2 times a day until germination is visible and then watering 1- 1 ½” per week as needed. Both excessive watering and not enough watering can slow down or even stop germination of the product. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to give us a call at 877-220-3089 and one of our representatives would be glad to assist you. We hope this issue has not caused you to lose faith in our product, as we use reviews like yours to maintain and improve the quality product that you and other consumers have come to know and love.

Great for patching bare spots.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great for patching bare spots in my yard but tried to over seed an area with limited success. Patched several areas in my yard by scratching the surface with a rake and then spreading the grass seed. Need to keep areas moist for about a week. Grass grew very thick. I tried to over seed an area with a lot of weeds with very limited success. Watered area as I did with bare spots.. After several months I applied weed killer to the area but very little grass was growing. Had to redo several times to fill in area with grass.

Did not do what I expected

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our large yard receives sun at different Times depending on the time of year. I thought this would work well under some of our trees where the ground reeives minimal sun. It didn't grow as well as I expected - only saw a minimal increase of grass.

I bought a 20lb bag since I had so many places to use it. Part of my yard is very sunny. Part is very shady. I water it daily and followed all the instructions and nothing. Very disappointing.

Wasted Time and Money
on May 9, 2019

My wife purchased this seed for repairing areas of our lawn that are shade and sun. I prepared the area and followed the directions. I have made sure to faithfully water and wanted to get as much benefit from the spring rain. After 3 weeks of effort my lawn looks the same as when I first laid the seed. I still have bare dirt and only thing growing is weeds. Not what I was expecting for the amount paid.

We are sorry to hear of your experience with Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun and Shade Mix. Temperature plays a critical role in seedling germination. Soil temperatures for warm season grass seed must be around 70° F for seed to germinate. You can contact us if you would like to continue discussing this or if you want to know about our product guarantee. You can reach us here http://tinyurl.com/mds8zo5.

I bought three bags of this grass seed and none of it ever came up. It was a total waste of money.
Response from ScottsBy AgentConsumer ServiceAugust 22, 2019
We are sorry to hear that your Scotts Turf Builder Sun and Shade Grass Mix did not germinate as expected. This seed mix is a combination of bluegrass, ryegrass, and fescue. While the ryegrass and fescue should germinate in 2 weeks, it could take 28 days for the bluegrass to come up. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please contact us to see what can be done. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It was easy to see where this had been spread due to the color of the seed. Make sure you are using this on loosened soil. Loosening the soil helps the seed stay in place when you water. Better to water often for shorter intervals.
