We're sorry to hear you had several unsuccessful attempts to seed your lawn with the Scotts Turf Builder Sun & Shade Grass Seed. It is certainly frustrating to go to the work of reseeding an area, only to have the results less than satisfactory. Water is an important factor in successful seeding. The newly seeded areas must be kept constantly moist for weeks on end. Allowing the soil to dry out even for an hour during the critical germination phase can result in seedling death. This may require that you give the seeded areas a light watering two to three times a day for the first few weeks. After that, you will still need to keep the seedlings watered on a regular basis. The soil should feel moist like a wrung out sponge.

Two "enemies" of newly seeded lawns are herbicides and lawn diseases. While you have very little control over the outbreak of a lawn disease, do make sure that no weed control or weed prevention chemical has been used in the area, as those products will also prevent or inhibit germination. When used on newly germinated lawns, herbicides will kill off the new grass.

Finally, temperature plays a critical role in seed germination. Soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit for the grass seed to germinate. Air temperature must typically be between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Seeds will not germinate if the temperatures are cold at night, or are fluctuating from high day temperature to very low night time temperatures. Very hot weather will also inhibit seed germination.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love this grass seed. Want my entire yard to be reseeded with this. Everywhere I have seeded with this grows a nice dark thick green grass. It looks great and doesn’t need nearly as much water as the rest of my lawn.
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Quality, Value

Works perfectly in the toughest conditions

I used this to patch a small area on a hill. The weather was particularly hot and dry and I was only able to water briefly in the evening. Nonetheless, the seed took and, within 10 days, was solidly established. This was a little more expensive but, unlike the cheaper brands, did not turn out to be a waste of money.
Pros: Quality, Easy to Use, Effective
I would recommend this to a friend!

The seed was bad and did not grow at all
I used it last fall and this spring. I followed directions completely at 2 different locations. The seed did not grow and was more expensive than other brands I have used in the past. Scott's guarantee their product snd I would like my money back!!
Cons: Didn't work as expected, not grow at all expensive
