We apologize sorry, Mr. Mackey, that you have experienced problems while using Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. Going through the effort to reseed only to have unsatisfactory results is certainly very frustrating. Undoubtedly you will be doing reseeding projects in the future, and we just want to give you a few tips that have been helpful to some of our consumers.
Sun is important for seeding, and if the area you are looking to seed does not get at least 3-4 hours of sunlight, it is likely that seed will not grow properly. Herbicides and weed controls can also interfere with germination rates. If a weed control is used on a newly seeded area or on an area that will be seeded, it can cause issues.
Keeping the area watered is also important, and watering too much can inhibit growth, so watering only as much as is needed is required. Grass seed also needs to come in direct contact with the soil. If you are seeding on top of old grass, it may be necessary to rake the area vigorously or add a shallow layer of topsoil. Temperature is also critical, and this particular seed requires soil temperatures of at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit to germinate.
We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please contact us to see what can be done. You may visit our contact page by clicking on the following link: http://tinyurl.com/7ag7a3n

Had to regrow some grass after patio work. We decided to invest in quality grass seed so we could have a nice thick lawn. Our lawn is green but unfortunately the green is provided by CLOVER not grass. The product was too expensive for this outcome. Sorry Scott's I won't be buying again.
Cons: Didn't work as expected, quality
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We are sorry that you have experienced problems while using Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. It is certainly frustrating to go to the work of reseeding an area, only to have the results less than satisfactory. Undoubtedly you will be doing reseeding projects in the future, and we would like to give you a few tips that have been helpful to some of our consumers.
Water is an important factor in successful seeding. The newly seeded areas must be kept constantly moist for weeks on end. Allowing the soil to dry out even for an hour during the critical germination phase can result in seedling death. This may require that you give the seeded areas a light watering two to three times a day for the first few weeks. After that, you will still need to keep the seedlings watered on a regular basis. The soil should feel moist like a wrung out sponge.
Seeds must come into direct contact with the soil in order to germinate. Our Research Department has told us that if seed is laid on top of old grass, you will have about a 2% germination rate.
Two "enemies" of newly seeded lawns are herbicides and lawn diseases. While you have very little control over the outbreak of a lawn disease, do make sure that no weed control or weed prevention chemical has been used in the area, as those products will also prevent or inhibit germination. When used on newly germinated lawns, herbicides will kill off the new grass.
Finally, temperature plays a critical role in seed germination. Soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit (13 degrees Celsius) for northern type turf grass seed to germinate (Bluegrass, ryegrass, fescue). Air temperature must typically be between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit (15-26 degrees Celsius).

Due to our very mild winter so far in nj I had some concrete poured thanksgiving week. The areas around the concrete were filled with topsoil by contractor. Even though it's typically too late for grass to grow I tried this product hoping that I may get lucky and help avoid weeds in early spring. I don't know the germination rate but I can say that grass has come up and the new seedlings have survived two minor frosts/ground freezes. I tried to water this once per day and there has been little rain. The grass is filling in better than I expected for this time of year and continues to grow a little.
Pros: Easy to Use
I would recommend this to a friend!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This grass seed worked better and quicker than any grass seed I had ever purchased. I simply wet my ground, threw the grass seed down and laid a few pieces of hay on top. It started growing within the first two weeks and continued growing until it was nice and thick. I will always buy this brand of grass seed.
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Good Directions, Value, grew thick
