[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We had a patch of area in our yard that needed life, the spot gets very little sun and lots of shade. Scott's Sun & Shade grass seed mix was perfect for this area. After generously spreading and faithfully watering properly in the morning and evening and after about a month, the bare patchy dead looking spot is now growing. I did notice the grass grew back a bit thicker than the rest of my grass. The greener color was gorgeous though. The directions were easy to follow and the seen mix worked great. Wish I would have thought to use this earlier in the season but will be buying and using again. I highly recommend !

Great product that produced a beautiful lawn

My front yard was nothing but mulch when we moved in and I desperately wanted to have a lush green lawn for my kids to play but didn't have the money purchase sod at the time so my husband and I researched grass seed and we both agreed to give Scotts turf builder sun and shade mix a try. We pulled out all of the mulch and tilled up the yard to prep for the seed. At first I was worried because I only saw patches of thin blades coming up but I kept up with taking care and keeping the soil wet throught the day. A few short weeks later, we went from a yard full of dirt to a yard covered in thick green grass! We were able to do this all on our own and saved so much money. I wish I could post pictures here. I am still amazed at how incredible my yard looks.

We are troubled to hear of the issues you encountered while using Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. You can contact us if you would like to continue discussing this or if you want to know about our product guarantee. Definitely don't buy this for new grass. I bought it for overseeding and 4 weeks later theres still no new grass in the bare spots. The seeds are still lying there. Expensive product plus the water bill i racked up watering it. Not worth it. Just use sod.

Works great in a desert climate and heavy shade!

This seed works great if you follow the instructions! Also, if you want the grass to come in thick, ensure that you put a thick layer of seed. It is important to account for the seed that doesn't grab. Birds are supposed to be deterred from eating the seed but we ended up covering our seed with an anti bird netting. We live in El Paso, Texas so our climate isn't the greatest for growing grass and it doesn't help that the area we planted the seed is densely shaded. However, following the instructions has given us amazing results!

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Sun & Shade PhysBlend Mix and appreciate your feedback.
Scotts Turf Builder Sun & Shade PhysBlend Mix should begin to germinate in 6 to 14 days under ideal conditions. For this seed mix, which contains tall fescue, ryegrass, and kentucky bluegrass soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees F for the seed to germinate. Daytime temperatures need to consistently be above 65 degrees F. This Grass Seed will germinate best when temperatures are consistently in the 65-80 degree F range. In the spring it takes a lot of consistent warm temperatures to warm up the soil, especially in Canada. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Cold weather will delay germination but will not hurt the seed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. Weed control used prior to seeding will prevent seed from germinating.
We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

Grows even in southern states

After having some backyard construction done, we had some bare spots that needed to be covered. We accidently bought this seed, not realizing that it is intended for use in northern states. We decided to put it down with some Scotts topsoil anyway and see what would happen. To our surprise, the grass sprouted quickly -- after just 2 weeks, there's no sign of the bare spots! We didn't need to water it because we got a full week of rain just after planting, and I'm sure that helped quite a bit.
