[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This stuff works like a charm and I use it every spring and fall after harsh winters and unrelenting summer sun and heat. A little topsoil with Scott's turf builder grass seed and occasional watering results in a lush, full regrow the of grass. If only they could figure out how to grow hair like Scott's has done with their turf builder grass seed!
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Good Directions

I must have gotten 3 bad bags...

I purchased 3, 40lb bags to overseed my 16,000sq ft. lawn and to seed some bare spots that were created from work that was done when installing my new driveway. After the driveway was installed, the borders of the driveway were re-soiled with a good top soil and the area was seeded as directed. Ive had to overseed that area 3 times already and other places in the yard the seed was not germinating as well. A 40lb bag of this seed isn't cheap...each bag was approximately $107 at Lowes and I bought 3 bags. I went with the Scott's because of the name but now Im not sure if I should have went with Pinnacle. All the proper steps were taken to prepare the soil for the seeding and it's disappointing to have to re-seed several times. I also have a sprinkler system that was watering as directed. I guess its possible I just got a few bags from the same lot that had inert seed. Since I have a new lawn(installed last year), in the fall I will be overseeding again. This time I won't be using Scott's Sun and Shade in the fall and it's disappointing because I have been a Scott's product fan for years.
Cons: Didn't work as expected

We are sorry that you have had problems while using Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. Temperature plays a critical role in seedling germination. Soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees and no warmer than 75 degrees for your seed to germinate. If you sow your seed when the soil temperature is too hot or too cold, the seed will wait until ideal conditions are present. As long as you do not experience a sudden change in temperature after germination begins, you could still experience the great results you expected from our seed.
One major "enemy" of a newly seeded lawn is herbicide. Make sure that no weed control or weed prevention product has been used in the area, as those products will also prevent or inhibit germination. When used on newly germinated lawns, herbicides will kill off the new grass.
We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience please contact us to see what can be done. You may visit our contact page by clicking on the following link http://tinyurl.com/7ag7a3n

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this to seed a few larger bare spots in my lawn. I followed the directions and watered it 3 to 4 times a day to keep it moist and the gras germinated. With fist application the coverage was pretty good but I did do a second application to fill it in even more. The bare spots are now fully covered and the grass looks great.
Pros: Effective

First, how can your overall rating be almost four stars, when almost every review I read gives it one star? I think there should be a class action lawsuit against your company for causing so much extra work for so many people. My body is hurting from all of the bending and pulling to get rid of all of the crabgrass that grew where your grass should have. Then I had to buy and move a yard of dirt to fill in all of the ground that was removed when I pulled so many weeds that they left holes all over the area. Plus more grass seed (not Scott's, never again!) and fertilizer, plus the trouble of making sure I keep the area moist for two weeks or more.
