We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix and appreciate your feedback.
Depending on conditions and the seed type, the grass can take from 6 to 14 days to start to germinate. Germination requires air temperatures consistently above 65 degrees F. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Cold weather will delay germination but will not hurt the seed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. If a weed control is used around the time of seeding, it will either prevent the seeds from germination outright or destroy the seedlings as they emerge.

Great Grass seed

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have three large dogs who have a track made in the yard near the fence line. I was able to quickly spread this grass seed and it sprouted in just a few days. I liked that it covered both the sunny and shady spots without having to change bags of seed out.

Built from scratch

Bought my sun and shade at one of the big box stores for a pretty good price. I was doing a full lawn renovation and took it down the soil. Had mostly weeds before. Planted sun and shade on May 20 2003 and worked on it over the next few months. It’s October 1st today and I’m very pleased. Planted some elite seed in the back from another vendor and don’t really notice that much of a difference.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was the first time using the Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. We have sandy soil and dry, with this mix I was able to fill in spots in the lawn that were challenging in the past. NIce to have this option!

Slow germination and excellent appearance

This seed is slow to germinate. It is not an instant impact contractor's mix. You have to make sure your seed bed is properly prepped and you must keep the ground moist every day. Once established, it blows away contractor mixes in appearance. It has a vibrant dark green color and over time it will grow into a lush lawn with proper care. Good things come to those who are patient and willing to wait.

This product is horrible

Don’t waste your money, but a no name brand or CIL product. My second time disappointed. I reseeded a an area of my front lawn. The store only had Scotts, I reluctantly purchased a bag. A week later, I reseeded part of my backyard lawn with a No Name brand. 7-8 days later the NoName brand showed signs of growth, nothing on the Scotts area. The watering process was the same for both areas. 3 weeks later No Name brand is showing great signs of growth. The Scotts nothing. Reseeded the Scotts area with the noname brand. 7-8 days later grass growth in the front yard.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Sun & Shade PhysBlend Mix and appreciate your feedback.
They should start seeing germination in 6-14 days under ideal growing conditions. Will take about a month for all the seed to germinate. This grass seed will germinate best when temperatures are consistently in the 65-80 degree F range.

very poor results
on September 5, 2022

renovated my lawn after grub damage. I power raked and aerated the lawn working up the surfaces. In bad areas I used bags of dirt. I seeded all the dirt areas and made contact with dirt with the back of my rake. Next I used Scotts spreader and cover the entire yard as directed with grass seed. I followed that up with starter fertilizer. Final step I spread pin Mulch over all the dirt repaired areas. I water daily twice a day and occasionally a misting when the soil dried out. Now after over 2 weeks very little germination to report. That was a lot of hard work with poor results. I would not recommend this grass seed. I read where only 80% germination rate for this blend. I'd happy with half that. One more week and I'll have to do a complete redo. Do your homework before just trusting Scotts like I did.
