We apologize for the lack of results from using our product. Going through the effort of preparing and reseeding an area only to have disappointing results is certainly frustrating. We have sent your comments as well as comments from other reviewers to our Quality Assurance Department to investigate any issues. We also have some seeding tips to offer that have been helpful to some of our consumers.

Watering is critical and keeping the soil moist for the germination phase is required. It's also important for the seeds to be in direct contact with the soil. When overseeding, this may mean having to rake over the seeded area. Soil temperatures should be at least 55 degrees for proper germination and using most herbicides or weed controls can interfere with the new growth.

We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please contact us to see what can be done. You may visit our contact page by clicking on the following link: http://tinyurl.com/7ag7a3n

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was a little disappointed. I have full sun in my front yard but mixed sun and shade in my back yard. Got pretty good growth in the front but only limited results in the shady areas in the back.
Pros: Easy to Use
Cons: Didn't work as expected
I would recommend this to a friend!

Have tried a couple Scotts grass seed products. The 3-2-1, was extremely patchy. I now have tried this product, no sign of the seeds growing at all after 3 weeks. Definitely going to another product line. I have over 20 years of lawn maintenance and landscaping my own homes and professionally.
Pros: Easy to Use
Cons: Didn't work as expected, didnt work at all, price vs result, dissapointing
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We are sorry that you have experienced problems while using Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. It is certainly frustrating to go to the work of reseeding an area, only to have the results less than satisfactory. Undoubtedly you will be doing reseeding projects in the future, and we would like to give you a few tips that have been helpful to some of our consumers.

Water is an important factor in successful seeding and the seeds must come into direct contact with the soil in order to germinate. The newly seeded areas must be kept constantly moist for weeks on end. Allowing the soil to dry out even for an hour during the critical germination phase can result in seedling death. Covering seeds with no more than 1/4 of an inch (.63 centimeter) of topsoil or lawn soil will also help maintain the moisture level.

Two "enemies" of newly seeded lawns are herbicides and lawn diseases. While you have very little control over the outbreak of a lawn disease, do make sure that no weed control or weed prevention chemical has been used in the area, as those products will also prevent or inhibit germination. When used on newly germinated lawns, herbicides will kill off the new grass.

Finally, temperature plays a critical role in seed germination. Soil temperatures must be at least 55 degrees Fahrenheit (13 degrees Celsius) for northern type turf grass seed to germinate (Bluegrass, ryegrass, fescue). Air temperature must typically be between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit (15-26 degrees Celsius).

Pros: Easy to Use, Good Directions
Cons: Didn't work as expected

We are sorry that you have experienced problems while using this seed It is certainly frustrating to go through all the work of reseeding an area, only to have the results less than satisfactory. Water is an important factor in successful seeding. The newly seeded areas must be kept constantly moist for weeks on end. Allowing the soil to dry out even for an hour during the critical germination phase can result in seedling death. This may require that you give the seeded areas a light watering two to three times a day for the first few weeks. After that, you will still need to keep the seedlings watered on a regular basis. The soil should feel moist like a wrung out sponge.

Seeds must come into direct contact with the soil in order to germinate. Our Research Department has told us that if seed is laid on top of old grass, you will have about a 2% germination rate. If you are seeding over an old lawn, we recommend that you rent a slit seeder. If this is not possible, vigorously rake the existing turf, or add a shallow layer of topsoil to the yard prior to seeding. Seed also needs exposure to sunlight. A heavy cover of straw, soil, or other material will cause the seeds to rot, or severely limit germination. Cover seeds with no more than 1/4 of an inch (.63 centimeter) of topsoil or lawn soil.

We want you to be confident in our products, this is why we offer a product guarantee. If you would like to further discuss this, please contact us here: http://tinyurl.com/mds8zo5

Hardly any growth

Put this PLUS the starter fertilizer down according to directions and hardly any growth can be seen. In another small area where they had dug to empty the septic they put plain grass seed (no special coating or anything), and it has flourished immensely. It has been over 3 weeks, and I have watered and watched - but nothing. Next time - I will NOT use Scott.
Pros: Easy to Use
Cons: Didn't work as expected
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
