Turf Builder grass seed

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Best grass and lawn in the neighborhood. I love this seed. Had moved into this neglected house and the yard was a mess with brown spots and open areas of no grass growing at all. Went out and bought brand name seeds, planted it and had nothing but bad luck with getting three different kinds to grow. Consulted with the local nursery and they recommended adding black top soil and putting down Scott's Turf Builder grass seed. I did just that and now I have the eye and envy of all my neighbors who often stop by and asked me "what you got on this lawn".
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Good Directions, Value, Quality

Spent over $200 dollars on this seed and did not get any seed to sprout. Worst seed ever.
Cons: Didn't work as expected
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We are sorry that you have experienced problems while using Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix. Generally, we recommend seeding in late spring when temperatures are warm not only during the day, but at night also.
One major "enemy" of a newly seeded lawn is herbicide. Make sure that no weed control or weed prevention product has been used in the area, as those products will also prevent or inhibit germination.

I bought a new house last year that needed a yard, so I went with Scott's sun and shade mix. I rented a Harley prepped my yard, leveled it out and spread the seeds. after seeding I put down a starter fertilizer and rented a roller to press the seed into the dirt, watered as required.
My house has had the only successful seeding in my neighborhood. No bare patches, just thick green grass.
Everyone else just plants grass a few times and then goes with sod.

Lack of germination

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've used Scotts products for over 30 years. This past fall I purchased a 20LB bag of Turf BLDR Sun&Shade grass seed from a local retailer. I also rented an Over-seeder machine from one of the local rental dealers hoping that germination would be maximized. I ended up being extremely disappointed with the lack of germination. In some areas of my lawn it looked like there was no germination and in other areas it was very limited. I had always believed Scotts to be the go-to product for lawn services but it looks like I'll be seeding again in the Spring with possibly another product.
Cons: Didn't work as expected
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great shade of green, and it grows thick and rich

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm a lawn nerd. Ever since I edited a golf magazine, I've been a fanatic about my lawn. I wanted it to look like a fairway. Before I discovered Sun and Shade, I bought whatever grass seed was on sale at my local garden store. No more! I now insist that any seed I use to repair damaged sections of my lawn has to be Sun and Shade. No other seed grows so reliably, and no other seed produces such a rich shade of green. This is a great product!
