Big Disappointment with Scotts Sun & Shade Mix.

Tried it on both areas Sun & Shade. Works great in the shade, watered daily. The sunny areas was a big Disappointment. A lot of work for seed preparation with 80% less coverage results in the sun.

Hello. We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Sun & Shade Mix with Root Building Nutrients and appreciate your feedback.
When making an application of Scotts Turf Builder Sun & Shade Mix with Root-Building Nutrition, this grass seed germinates best when soil temperatures are above 55°F and air temperatures are consistently above 60°F. In the spring, it takes a lot of consistently warm temperatures to warm up the soil. Any weed control used prior to seeding, such as using the crabgrass preventer, will prevent seed from germinating. It can also take 6-14 days to notice results, but up to a month for all the seeds to germinate.
We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee. If for any reason you, the consumer, are not satisfied with the results after using this product, you are entitled to get your money back. Limitations apply. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

I plan on doing a complete renovation on my lawn this fall. So, in deciding what grass to go with, I killed several 2000 sq/ft spots and planted them in different seed blends. Some of the blends were so called elite varieties that cost much more than this Scotts blend. I have been watering twice a day for 15 days and right now the Scotts is head and shoulders above the rest. I’m attaching 2 photos. The first one was right before planting and the second is after 15 days and the first mowing. The key to success with any grass seed planting is to top dress and keep it moist.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a large tree in back yard that grass won't grow under. My yard is tall fescue. I would on several occasions sew tall fescue seed under tree. The grass would grow for a while and die out. This time I used Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun and Shade mix. I prepared the site and sewed the seed covering with straw. Watered the seed daily till germinated. I now have a green lawn again under this tree. Now my whole yard looks great.
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Good Directions, Quality, Value

I had a section of grass that somehow died after fertilizing. I think my neighbor accidentally fertilized it as well on accident. So I ripped it out and flooded the area to neutralize the soil. Planted this on June 1st, and this photo is from June 10th. Very happy

It's been 3 weeks I started with no grass just poor dirt. My 2 dogs destroyed my lawn, I amended the soil and put a bag of scouts down with a spreader covered the seed with about an inch of more soil watered heavily and now have the beginnings of a beautiful lawn. I live in the southern California desert zone 9. Planned this the first week of June. Area is part shade and afternoon sun.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Had never used this product for grass seed. It worked to fill in several small areas on my lawn. I have very sandy soil and it grew fast and strong. Would use again. The packaging was of great quality and very nice to use and store.

New Lawn Area

Growing up as a kid, my father would only use Scott’s products. Now that I maintain my own lawn in my recently bought house I was looking to repair a lot of bare spots and new lawn areas after removing lots of brush and weeds. A buddy of mine was doing the same and bought 2 50lb bags of contractor grade seed. I was about to do the same since he paid much less than the Scotts brand. I doubted that brand and went ahead and bought 2 50lb bags of Scott’s. Needless to say my new lawn began to sprout within 5 days and full thick growth at 3 weeks, just in time for November. My buddies grass? Not so well. Grass came in patchy and then completely died off within two weeks. Super happy I listened to my pops and now have a thick beautiful lawn. I will be completing the rest of my yard with all Scott’s products, thank you Scott’s!
