Three weeks and no grass

I bought this three weeks ago and wish I had not. Cleared the spots, raked the ground to break the soil and spread the seed. Watered every day and nothing. Bought a different product and it started in days. Won't buy again. No option for zero stars.

Thick and Lush Lawn

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was so impressed by the results of the Scotts Turf Builder Thick'R Lawn Sun & Shade mix. This bag comes with the three essential ingredients you need for a thicker, better looking lawn. The bag includes seed, fertilizer, and also a soil improver. My lawn had been looking pretty bad considering the hot, dry summer we had in Illinois. My grass was thinning and looked sparse in some areas and needed a little help. The turf builder was easy to apply with my spreader and covered my lawn evenly. It was easy to see where it was applied afterwards, so if I missed a spot I could go back and re-apply it there. I watered my lawn every day. I was so surprised to notice a difference after just two weeks and only one application. My lawn looked fuller and more lush. My neighbors even commented about how green it looked compared to theirs. I am excited to try this turf builder in my backyard as I have dogs and need something that works well and quickly to cover the bare spots.

4 weeks and zero germination

I bought this 4 weeks ago and there is zero germination. I cleared all the spots and raked thoroughly to break the soil and spread the seed. We watered daily and nothing has grown. I've used Scotts ezseed in the past and did not have a problem.

I purchased 2 bags of the EZ seed for the back yard where it doesn’t get much sun. Hoping this will work since it said it was guaranteed. Well I got hardly any grass that has come up yet. This was put out about 2 months ago. How do I get refund on this since it not working and said guaranteed ??

Only grew weeds. Wasted a lot of money!

We used this product on both our front and back yard. The front yard we just wanted a little more thickness to our lawn, in the back we were growing new grass. After using this product our front yard is full of weeds and our backyard only grew weeds. Very disappointed in this product. I feel like it was a waste of money, effort, and time!

We're sorry to hear Scotts Turf Builder Thick'R Lawn didn't meet your expectations. Weed seeds are a natural part of native soil, so it is normal to have weeds grow when planting grass seed. Reach out to us here for assistance with our product guarantee: https://www.scotts.com/en-us/help-center

Great Product with Great Results
on August 4, 2023

I terminated my local lawn service in Charlotte NC about 4 years ago and began using Scott Turf Builder quarterly on my lawn. Over the years, I have had the most plush, thick and greenest fescue grass there could be. My location is where old farm land once was and had to bring in massive amounts of topsoil due to the unsuitable soil (black talo) which is gray/black clay. Once we did this and began using STB, our grass has really thrived.

Blotchy results at best
on October 9, 2024

I purchased and applied this product (seed + fertilizer + conditioner) Sept 7 to 4 small sunken areas in my yard after filling them with fresh top soil. After watering them every day for weeks, all I have gotten is a few small blotchy areas of grass. The temps have been unseasonably warm in central Iowa too over the past month. I would have thought after getting a product with all 3 essentials plus sowing in fresh top soil that is over 3" deep, it would have produced a thick lawn. Nope! Completely disappointed in a name brand that should deliver the best product. Looks like the name is just a name now. Don't waste your money.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Thick' R Lawn Sun & Shade and appreciate your feedback.
This grass seed will germinate best when temperatures are consistently in the 65-80°F range. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Cold weather will delay germination but will not hurt the seed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination.
