[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Scott's has good products that does what it advertise. As you can see around my angel brick statues was bare, no grass. When I got this product I was skeptical but as you can see, it works and filled in the space good.
I will use Scott's products for all my yard needs.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Scott's Turf Builder Thick R Lawn has given my grass amazing green results. The 3 in 1 formula for sun or shade has the right amount of seed, fertilizer and soil improver. Covers 1,200 square foot which means a little goes a long way.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I normally use Scotts products for my lawn as needed but this is the first time I have tried Scotts Turf Builder Thick'R Lawn Sun and Shade 3-in-1. I have bare spots in my lawn and my grass is thin and I needed something to help build it up. Due to many trees around my yard, my yard has sun early during the day then it becomes shaded later on so Scotts Turf Builder Thick'R Lawn Sun and Shade is perfect for my situation. Scotts Turf Builder is easy to use with a spreader, but as with any product it is important to follow the directions strictly to have success. I am very pleased so far with my first application and I am already seeing improvement to my grass after this first application. I will definitely purchase it again to continue to improve my lawn.

Second time I've tried this product. First time nothing happened but I encountered 5 straight days of sustained winds over 15 mph right after I spread it on my lawn so I couldn't keep it moist. I thought I'd try again. This time ideal conditions. Raked, watered, temp profile correct. NOTHING. Fertilizer worked as my existing grass greened up. Not a single blade of new grass. I gave up using my pre-emergent for this! I think Scotts should pay my water bill for this quarter.
Please don't bother to post the obvious form letter response. I just wanted to add my rating to your average and warn others not to invest time or energy in this product.

The product didn't work

I followed all instructions, even using a thatch rake to insure removal of thatch and break up the soil surface, and 3 weeks after application of Thick'r Lawn to 3 different areas of my lawn, I cannot swear that a single seed germinated. There is simply no indication of any new grass growth in any of those areas. Of course, assuming that it would be good since it was Scotts, I did not keep my receipt so I cannot return the empty bag to the store for a return. Disappointing.

You should start seeing germination in 6-14 days under ideal growing conditions, but will take about a month for all the seed to germinate. This Grass Seed will germinate best when temperatures are consistently in the 65-80-degree F range. Weed control used prior to seeding will prevent seed from germinating.

This product made my lawn worse.

8 weeks ago we removed all our existing grass,roto tilled our yard raked all dead weeds after we had killed everything in our soil. 3 weeks ago we bought this product applied it along with a layer of one inch quality top soil. Grass started to grow, but half of our yard is Johnson grass! So disappointed, and no out top soil has no seeds as I still have 3 yards so ting on my property and nothing is growing out of it . Now I have to start all over again! I have no idea how to treat this without loosing the grass I believe I planted. And feel I have to pay a landscaper to redo all off my work. Very dissatisfied and throughly disappointed in this product. My lawn is worse than when I wanted to replace it !

When applying grass seed to new soil, you want to make sure that the new soil is mixed in with the native soil by at least 2". Mixing thoroughly to avoid creating a distinct barrier layer between Scotts Lawn Soil and the native topsoil will allow grassroots to expand easily for more vigorous growth.

TOTAL CRAP!, can't give minus rating!

Followed the instructions to the letter!!!... 4 weeks now, ABSOLUTELY NO germination seen!!! New top soil, over seeded, "manely" mulch used... watered religiously...NOTHING!!! Used all 7 lbs...Nothing!!! Guess I need to start over using Pennington grass! WHAT a disappointment!!!
