The product is great but the Scotts spreader they recommend sucks. I applied the three in one seed recommended on the instructions with the Scotts spreader but I could not see that the spreader was dumping a stripe right in front so now my lawn has green dark lush stripes.

Works like a charm!

I had been working out of the country on and off for the last three years and unable to keep up with my lawn. My entire backyard had a worn out, trampled on look with lots of bare patches. I read a lot of reviews on this product before using it and the general consensus was to follow the directions to the tee for best results. That is exactly what I did, and three weeks later I am simply amazed at the transformation of my lawn.
I live in the Chicago area, so I started in late April doing a complete raking of the entire yard. I made sure my sprinklers were turned on for the season and temps were consistently well above freezing before applying the product. As everyone else recommends I watered every day (15 minutes per zone). My lawn is looking more lush and thicker than it has in years! There are still a few bare spots in the lawn I will have to follow up with patching seed, but overall I cannot believe how well everything works. I will definitely follow up with another application in the fall.
My one criticism though is that the bag size I bought said it would cover 8,000 square feet. My front and back yard combined come to 6,000 sq. feet. I followed the spreader drop rate on the bag (Scotts EdgeGuard Broadcast Spreader) and I was only able to fertilize the back yard. For me, this was fine as that was my biggest area of need but I do think the listed spreader rate drops the fertilizer too fast. But it is hard to complain about this when I see how awesome my back yard looks!

I spread this product on my lawn back in late October 2023. I thought it was a little late to apply it, but at the encouragement of a neighbor, I spread it and thought if it didn't work, I'd try again next year. Now it's 3/31/2024 & WOW!! The grass filled in & it is lush, thick, & a beautiful dark green color. I have a couple of patches that I need to fill in. I think it may be due to pets or people walking through it (our home is in a high traffic area). I plan to overseed this Fall 2024 to give my lawn a boost. I am also going to seed this week in the back part of my front yard to see what happens. This area has more weeds & moss than grass. Ideally, I should have applied weed killer, so that the grass seed doesn't have to compete with weeds, but if it doesn't work out, I will reseed in the fall. In any case, I am pleased, so far, with the product. I would like to know what type of grass is in the Sun & Shade mix. I can't seem to find it on the package, but I may have overlooked it.

I bought 2 of these bags to overseed my lawn after detaching and scarifying. It was slow of germinate. Took almost 10 days. But what did germinate in 5 days which I thought to be grass at first turned into patch of garlic all over my lawn. Could you please give me a deal so I can ensure my garlic grass is good? Thanks!

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Thick'R Lawn Sun & Shade and appreciate your feedback.
the seed in this product is expected to germinate within 6-14 days. The speed of germination can be impacted by several factors, such as temperature, moisture levels and whether or not a weed control product was used around the time of seeding.
There are approximately 10,000 weed seeds per 1 cubic foot of native soil. Soil preparation brings weed seeds to the surface, so it s normal to have some weeds germinate when seeding. All Scotts seed is thoroughly cleaned and is 99.9% weed seed free.
We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great product. Helped establish new grass and helped the sod flourish. Easy to apply. Lawn looked great. I ended up getting a few more bags of this product to cover every inch of the property. It was money well spent.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My grass was a mess, with many weeds that I had thought all but destroyed my lawn. I first used Weed-B-Gone with two applications, to clean things up, before using this product. I now have a very rich lush lawn like it had been when the sod was first put down. This product works.
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Good Directions, Quality, Value
