We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Thick' R Lawn Sun & Shade and appreciate your feedback.
This grass seed will germinate best when temperatures are consistently in the 65-80°F range. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Cold weather will delay germination but will not hurt the seed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination.

No grass yet, it's been 3 months!

I bought a bag of Scotts Turf Builder, sun and shade mix to reseed an area of our lawn that had been heavily walked on in the spring. I carefully prepared the area, raked and loosened the soil watered until the soil was moist and tilled in some lovely compost/topsoil. I over seeded the area and kept it moist until the rains started 2 months later. So far not a single blade of grass has grown. The ground temp was ideal and I followed directions to the letter. I am hoping something will sprout in the spring. I will have to try another brand of seed if nothing grows from this expensive purchase!

Hi Stally. We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Thick'R Lawn Sun & Shade and appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback.
You should start seeing germination in 6-14 days under ideal growing conditions. It will take about a month for all the seed to germinate. For this seed mix, which contains tall fescue, ryegrass, and Kentucky bluegrass, soil temperatures must be at least 55°F for grass seed to germinate. Daytime temperatures need to consistently be above 65°F. This grass seed will germinate best when temperatures are consistently in the 65-80°F range. In the spring it takes a lot of consistent warm temperatures to warm up the soil, especially in Canada. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Cold weather will delay germination but will not hurt the seed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. Weed control used prior to seeding will prevent seed from germinating. Weed control product used on new seedlings will kill seedlings. Do not apply a weed control that is registered for lawn use to new grass until it has been cut at least 3-4 times.

Followed the instructions completely and had no results at all from this product. Grass did not come up, nor did the lawn get thicker.

Cold weather will delay the seed germination. For best results, this should be applied when temperatures are 65-85 degrees.

Terrible results...uhghhhh

Not unlike some of the other folks, I purchased and applied as directed, watered consistently and am seeing very sparse results almost 4 weeks later. I am not happy with the way this product has performed. My conclusion is that sometimes you get a good batch and other times you don't...inconsistent at best...not worth the money or time I put in...Will look to other sources!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a really good Turf Builder as they say. The bags small but covers so much grounds. I actually had left over which shocked me. It easily went through my spreader and my spreader had no issue dispensing the product so it was Jam free which was nice. After a little bit I was actually very impressed with the results of the product and have very beautiful grass blades all over my yard. I will definitely be purchasing this several times a year to get this beautiful yard.
