[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It was time to replace our old spreader so I picked up a Scott's broadcast spreader and I was impressed . Easy to work with design and use. It seems to be sturdy so I filled it with Winterizer and set the settings based on the bags recommendations. It worked like a charm. Finished my Sloped front, sides, and back yard quickly. I know I have a keeper.
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Quality, Value, sturdy
I would recommend this to a friend!

The spreader is light weight which makes it esy to handle on different terrains. The directional spray guard is very convenient and prevents wasting fertilizer.
Pros: Value, Quality, Easy to Use, Good Directions, Effective
I would recommend this to a friend!

DOES NOT SPREAD EVENLY

After junking a previous Scott's spreader, we purchased the mini with high hopes. Used the Scott's fertilizer at the recommended setting. Design flaw alert....spreader drops fertilizer in a straight line. See post by Marmer 2016. The lawn now looks laughable. Lines everywhere.
Pros: Value
Cons: Didn't work as expected
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It is nice to be able to control the spread well enough that it doesn't get all over the sidewalk.

Concept - Excellent; Execution - Poor

I absolutely loved this spreader - all three (3) times I used it. However, I went to use it last week, and part of the way through the project, it broke. The orange piece under the unit which apparently holds the spinning piece in place (confined), snapped. From anything I can see, there is absolutely nothing that I can do to repair this unit myself. Although everything else is essentially pristine, this broken piece will simply not hold everything together and it now useless. I hate to throw it away - silly I know - but these are not cheap, dollar-wise, and I wish there was some good use for it. I truly loved the design on the feature which is the only reason I bought it - the deflector shield that you can turn on or off. What a great concept to keep my lawn product where it should be - the lawn. I guess I will head out to shop the other brands as I never got all of my winterizer down and it is getting very late in the year now. Although I really wanted the biggest unit, I guess I should be consoled by the fact that I lost less money this way than to have the bigger one break.
One of the principal reasons for purchasing this aside from the great design, was that I regularly use Scotts fertilizers on my lawn three to four times a year. With a coordinating spreader to fertilizer combination, the measurements are there for a perfect application. As the spreader is now broken so soon into use, I just do not think I will spend that again for the same unit. Therefore, I probably will move away from the Scotts line as well, and see what others out there have to offer. When I felt I was getting more for the extra money, it struck logic; however, now?! Not so much.
What a true shame...
Pros: Good Directions, truly smart design - the deflector
Cons: Didn't work as expected, broke during fourth use, plastic parts - cheap and maybe brittle

Spreader setting inaccurate?

After first use, spreading Turf Builder plus2 Weed Control (15000 sq-ft bag) on my 14,000 sq-ft lawn, using the setting on the bag (3.25), I had an entire bucket of material (~5000 sq-ft) left over. So it seems the setting should be higher. I'll try 4.25 next time.
The narrow wheel based does make it "jumpy" if you have bumps in the yard -- I probably should have bought the larger DLX model.
Very happy with the other features -- wheels turn easily, good even spray, the right blocking feature works well and its easy to switch it on/off with your foot. Handle is sturdy and release lever is easy to activate.
Pros: Value, Quality, Easy to Use, Effective
Cons: spread setting may be miscalibrated (too low)
