Include dial usage information

No instructions on how to use. Label on spreader says to come to your website for instructions on how to use number dial but there's nothing here.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard Mini Spreader and appreciate your feedback.

Always fill on a flat surface. Check the back of the product bag for proper spreader settings. For a Scotts product use the Broadcast/Rotary Spreader Setting. Spreader setting does not equate to how many pounds of product are put down per 1,000 square feet. Avoid streaks by slightly overlapping each spreading pattern by approximately 1 1/2 feet. To achieve this each pass should be about 5 feet apart from center of spreader to center of spreader. Avoid getting product into unwanted areas by using edgeguard feature. Engage edgeguard by using your foot to slide lever on backside of hopper to "On". Remember to disengage edgeguard when it is not needed. Use a walking speed of approximately 20 feet every 5 seconds (a brisk walk). One wheel "drives" the spreader meaning it turns the gearbox which turns the rotary plate and agitator for the product to be applied. The other wheel is a non-drive wheel meaning it free turns and does not turn the gearbox. Please contact us at the number below and we will email or mail you the Quick Start Guide.

We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.

I dare you to find instructions for settings
on October 13, 2023

They get a run around trying to find the settings. The label sys go to the website. The website says refer to the label. Another spot says to go to the specific seed product for the correct setting. Try that and it just says use the appropriate setting.
Does Scott know the appropriate settings or do they just throw out nonsense to customers?

Looks great but ...

I bought this product around 2019 and have used it with fertilizers with OK results. The smaller size is perfect for our relatively small lawns and garage storage space. However I cannot find settings information I need. The label on the product says "refer to our website for settings information" and the website says "refer to your label for settings information". Catch-22. Seems to me the product team is the problem ... the classical recipe for marketing failure. I don't recommend you buy their spreaders.
Response from ScottsBy Consumer Services AdminCustomer CareOctober 3, 2023
We are concerned to hear this. Spreader settings are based on the physical size of the openings in the spreader hopper and the amount of product disbursement needed. Spreader settings for Scotts spreaders should be found on the packages of Scotts products. If they are not, you are welcome to reach out to our Consumer Services team at 888-270-3714 with the product name/UPC and spreader model and we will be happy to supply the appropriate setting. Please be aware that when it comes to using our products in competitor's spreaders or using a competitor's product in one of our spreaders, our information is limited as there are far too many products and spreader combinations for us to test them all, but we are happy to supply whatever guidance we can to help you make your lawn the best it can be.

Cant find the stupid spreader settings. How hard would it be to post them on your website?
Response from ScottsBy Customer CareSeptember 12, 2024
We are sorry you were unable to located the spreader setting needed from our website. If using a Scotts product in a Scotts Spreader, the spreader settings are listed on the bag. If using a non-Scotts product in a Scotts Spreader we suggest the 50 x 20 Rule to provide you with a ball park setting. Our competitors' products and spreaders are constantly changing; therefore, making it impossible to test every product and spreader on the market. To prevent damage to your lawn, we suggest doing a 50 x 20 ft. test plot to assure that you are applying the product at the correct rate to your lawn.

1) Place enough material in the hopper to cover 1,000 sq. ft. (Usually indicated on the bag of product, if not indicated, take pounds in bag and divide by the number of thousand square feet bag covers. Example: 23 lb. bag covers 5,000 sq. ft., divide 23 by 5 to get 4.6lbs per 1,000 sq. ft.).
2) Place the spreader setting on a low setting (Usually one-fourth of the spreader setting range or less).
3) Spread the material over a 50 x 20 ft. area (This is 1,000 sq. ft.).
4) If material is left over, you will need to increase the setting.
5) If you come up short, you will need to decrease the setting.

While this is not a scientific method for getting the spreader setting, it will get them in the ballpark for their product or spreader.

Please reach out to our Consumer Services team at 888-270-3714 for additional assistance.

Drops a narrow strip of fertilizer
on May 25, 2020
Posted by: GaryCO
I agree with several other 1-star reviewers: this thing has a fatal design flaw. I have clear stripes on my lawn because this "broadcast" spreader didn't broadcast. The spinning plate is located BETWEEN the wheels, so most of the fertilizer hits the wheels and drops down into a narrow strip. Photos show the result of applying with 5' spacing.

No Product Spreader setting on the website
on April 15, 2023
Posted by: bebop
I ditto all of the other people who are obviously as annoyed as I am at not being able to locate the spreader setting either on the product label, which didn't come with enclosed detailed instructions as the website says, or the website. Yes, pathetic for such a big company. I'm questioning whether I will use these in the future, however, I'm going to call the number listed and give it a whirl. Sincerely, Disgruntled customer..

Green Streaks Everywhere!
on May 18, 2020
Posted by: mcda0702
from St. Paul, MN
I purchased Scott's 4-Step program earlier this Spring thinking it would be the perfect program for our lawn. After applying Step 1, I now have green streaks all over my lawn that appeared to be exactly where I had walked with my spreader!
Concerned that maybe it was the actual product itself, I did a bunch of research online and found out that this is an extremely common issue with the Scott's spreaders, especially the Edgeguard Mini. Essentially the rotary isn't above the hollow wheels, so as the product drops it gets stuck in the hollow of the wheels and leaves streaks all over your lawn!
Buyer Beware!!!!!!!

uneven spreading bad design
on April 7, 2021

from Grand Rapids, MI
I bought a new edgeguard mini broadcast spreader after giving my old scotts speedy green spreader to my son. With a partial new lawn to put in over bare ground I bought scotts sun and shade turf builder seed which has a nice bright blue coating so it's easily visible. Imagine my surprise to find that rather than a nice even pattern there is a stripe where poor design causes much of the seed to drop out of the pattern. The spreader works as designed but scotts needs to find a new designer or go back to what worked in the past. Don't buy this spreader. I won't put down fertilizer with it because it will cause stripes or burn patterns. I've had commercial experience spreading fertilizers on golf courses and at home and this spreader is unacceptable! Go back to the old design!
