Beyond disappointed

Not a novice when it comes to fertilizing. Worked 6 summers at a golf course, so I know that for the best results you criss cross your pattern. I also use a marker to keep my passes around 5 feet apart. But the design of this makes it impossible not to leave stripes in your lawn. I would have thought Scotts would have provided a spreader as good as their fertilizer.

Dominic391, we're sorry to hear about your experience with the Scotts Turf Builder Mini Spreader and we appreciate your feedback. This is usually caused by too much or not enough overlap. We do not recommend applying fertilizers in a crisscross pattern as it will cause too much fertilizer to be applied in some areas. Our products are backed by a guarantee. Fertilizer gets stuck in the wheels and you end up with dark lines across your lawn where is dumped too much product. Stick with other brands.

Junk - don't buy this product

Fertilizer drops into the turning mechanism and granules lock up the device. Oversized granules get stuck in the horizontal dispersion hole and over disperse fertilizer onto the yard. My neighbor asked me to fix his. The bigger brother to this unit has the same problem with the dispersion hole. You have to check every load for oversized particles. This problem cost me hundreds of dollars damage and many hours of work.

Constantly clogs
on June 14, 2022

I’ve had this spreader for about 3 years and honestly I’m amazed I’ve lasted this long with it. I have a small yard which is why I bought the drop spreader vs a broadcast spreader in the first place, but this thing constantly clogs, especially when applying Scott’s products that need to go down on a damp lawn. For example, just did an application tonight that should have been a single pass over the lawn, but instead took me four passes at double the application setting because the spreader clogged. This happens ALL the time and it’s extremely frustrating.

Spreader control knob is sloppy!
on August 19, 2022

I purchased Scotts® Turf Builder® Edgeguard® Mini Broadcast Spreader this past spring from my local big box store. I purchased it because I have always trusted the Scott's brand. During the grass growing season this year, I have tried to apply your Scott's fertilizers/weed killer products using the spreader and followed the instructions on the bags accordingly. However, the dial to control the spread rate of the product has not stayed in place when I followed the instructions on the Scott's products. This means that some of the product was applied too much of the fertilizer/weed killer not spread spread out over the (approx.) 5,000 SF. Using a different Scott's product (like crabgrass killer) the spread rate was not sufficient and I have been left with extra product in the spreader. I respectfully request that someone contact me so that we can resolve this issue. As it currently stands, I am terribly disappointed with the Scotts® Turf Builder® Edgeguard® Mini Broadcast Spreader rate of flow of your Scott's fertilizer/weed killers.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So easy to use. Just load any grass products that you love to use on your lawn and walk around. Its that simple. Easy to put together just need to snap in wheels and unfold and thats it. Such an awesome addition to the garden game.

Do NOT buy EdgeGuard Broadcaster!
on May 9, 2023

Despite being careful during my first application, my lawn showed severe streaking the following week. My wife watched me during the second application and agreed I applied the fertilizer consistently. Again there was severe streaking. A design issue causes the wheels to interfere with the application of fertilizer. I just brought the spreader to the dump!

Inconsistent drop/spreading of fertilizer regardless of setting. I would not recommend this spreader. Mo way to return it.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with (edit - insert product name) and appreciate your feedback.
We take consumer feedback very seriously and will pass your comments and concerns on to our Quality Control Division. Please check that the rotor, gearbox or agitator is not bent or damaged. When applying, if not walking fast enough the spreader will not fling the product properly and therefore will potentially hit the wheels. All of our broadcast spreaders underwent a design change at the end of 2020 that changed rotor angle and changed the agitator back to a 2-wing agitator. These changes reduce the potential for the product to hit the wheels.
We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.
