This review is written after one use applying Scott's Weed and Feed to a 4,200 square foot yard. As such, the durability of the product cannot be addressed. In using this product it is determined that it under-doses the yard. The prescribed setting for Scott's Weed and Feed is 3.5 which should, if it is in agreement with the dose rate on the bag, deliver 2.8 lbs per 1,000 square feet. This means a total of 11.76 lbs of Weed and Feed should be applied to the yard. The application method is consistent with the bag and spreader guidelines. After going over the full yard only 4.3 lbs of product had been applied. This indicates that the spreader needs to be calibrated and users should not rely on the manufacturer suggested settings to deliver the appropriate dose. It is possible that each spreader gives varying results depending on manufacturing tolerances, product design, and walking rates. So if you want to avoid burning your yard or wasting product by not applying enough to achieve desired results, then calibrate your spreader.
There are two design flaws with this particular spreader. 1) The handle is too short. It is about appropriate for a 5'3" person which is well below the average US male height of 5'9". 2) Additionally, the dependence of walking speed on the dose rate can be addressed by adding in a variable aperture which gets larger as speed increases and smaller as speed decreases. And if that seems too involved at the very least an indicator can be provided which lets the user know if they are walking the correct speed or if they need to speed up/slow down to reach the target speed. And yes I gave that to Scott's for free.
Aside from the design flaws, the materials have a cheap feel to them. I am hoping I don't suffer the demise of other users as a result. I can say that while mine did not break during the first use, my dad's did. It lost a wheel nut and the wheel which drives the rotor separated from the spreader. The wheel nut was never found so the thing was junked. In my opinion Scott's needs to hire better product engineers.
Pros: Easy to Use
Cons: Didn't work as expected

Good Quality Spreader

Been using this rotary spreader for over a year now. Used it for several applications of fertilizer, weed n feed, etc. Love the durability of the product although it looks to be made of simple plastic materials. Prefer this spreader over the drop spreaders as they give the flexibility to use products from all brands.
Pros: Value, Quality, Easy to Use, Effective

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was a bit skeptical at first because I have used a hand-held spreader for decades but I thought lets try it. I was pleasantly surprised in many ways. First the dial used is markedly larger than most others making changing it flawlessly easy. Second, the large capacity bowl and large tires saves tons of time over a hand held unit. I treat over 15K feet and this is way better. Third, the Edge Guard is seemingly new but does work. Someone should devise a unit that eliminates the striping of your lawn due to lack of overlap. As a left handed person having the squeeze control on the right is expected but having the option of moving it to the left would be nice. Great product!
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Quality

I've used this Mini spreader to spread multiple products over the last 2 years, and it has performed well for me. It it slightly flimsy in build, but I am very careful with things I purchase, and this hasn't been an issue yet for me, given its cost. I would like to grab a new Elite version sometime, because I am interested in the real tires and superior build quality vs the plastic wheels and flimsy-ness found on the Mini. Great product for the money!
