Poor design
on September 11, 2023
Posted by: Ford
The rotation device needs to be al least 1/2 inch higher than the wheel. Fertilizer catches on the inside wheel giving narrow burn line in grass

Left my yard a striped mess
on June 9, 2024
Posted by: Gundoc
I bought this spreader a couple of months ago and like other reviewers, my lawn turned into a striped mess. I bought this to replace an older Scott’s spreader that after 20+ years wore out. I NEVER had a problem with the old spreader. I’ve used this spreader twice on different parts of the lawn using two different Scott’s products and got the same striped results.

Leaves bad streaks

This spreader leaves streaks in your lawn due to it not spreading evenly. It drops more fertilizer between the wheels leading a 4 inch streak of greener grass. Do not buy.

Easy to use!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This spreader is a nice size, accommodates enough seed so you are not constantly refilling. It spreads well in a semi circle formation as you walk behind the unit. Saves time over using the hand held ones.

Left stripes in my yard!
on August 3, 2019

The hollow wheels allow for the fertilizer to accumulate in them and it will fall out in when you turn it or hit bumps. This causes way too much fertilizer to be dropped in that spot and kills the grass. My yard was in fantastic shape before I applied the fertilizer with this spreader. I would not buy it again if I had the choice and will likely never use this unit again.

Good Job

I bought this for my father. He has a small lot and this works perfectly. No fertilizer going into the gardens, all over the driveway and sidewalk. He is very happy with it and so am I.

Beyond disappointed

Not a novice when it comes to fertilizing. Worked 6 summers at a golf course, so I know that for the best results you criss cross your pattern. I also use a marker to keep my passes around 5 feet apart. But the design of this makes it impossible not to leave stripes in your lawn. I would have thought Scotts would have provided a spreader as good as their fertilizer.

Dominic391, we're sorry to hear about your experience with the Scotts Turf Builder Mini Spreader and we appreciate your feedback. This is usually caused by too much or not enough overlap. We do not recommend applying fertilizers in a crisscross pattern as it will cause too much fertilizer to be applied in some areas. Our products are backed by a guarantee. Piece of plastic junk
on August 20, 2021
Posted by: BlueJay
After using it twice the plastic broadcast spinner broke. They replaced the part. Now the entire broadcast system which is plastic is broke beyond repair. The edge guard also broke after a couple of uses. Didn't need it so it really didn't bother me. The spreader is plastic junk that is not worth the price. Originally bought a Scotts because of name recognition. Won't buy a Scotts again.
