Used once. Somewhat effective. Shouldve spent a little more. Cheaply made. Make sure its braced standing up before you add substance. Flimsey or wobbly.

Needs modernized

The Classic Drop Spreader has been around a long time, but it’s long overdue for a “New and Improved” Drop Spreader. Had this spreader for about 3 years now with 3-4 applications made per year. The open/close mechanism is too weak when there’s product in the spreader and it won’t close completely (or at all sometimes). The agitator needs to be driven by both wheels, not just one side, and have two independent agitators split betweeen left and right sides. Also, that way it will push more evenly on both sides and distributes fertilizer uniformly when going around curved edges. Last, give it some sort of rubber for the wheels, not the light plastic wheels that slip and won’t properly drive the agitator thus not evenly dropping fertilizer. People with small lawns can’t use a broadcast spreader and need an accurate and easy to use drop spreader.

Please Don't Waste Your Money!!

I bought this spreader year before last. I used it a little then and then again last year. It was a disaster both times. The wheels LOCK UP as much as they roll freely.If I put in a very small amount of seed in the hopper, the wheels will roll OK but if you fill it with the amount you need to do your project,the wheels start to lock up again. Honestly, I should have demanded my money back after the first time I tried to use it. Plenty other people have the same problems with this spreader.Scotts dropped the ball on this one. I have purchased a ton of Scotts seeds,fertilizers,etc,in my life and have always been pleased. UNTIL NOW. If anybody reading this buys this particular Drop Spreader, please make sure you can get a full refund if your spreader is a piece of junk like mine. I truly wished I had done this.

Moving on.

Moving to another spreader that fits a tall person. Tired of having the material shot downwards instead of being spread accurately due to the angle and getting an aching back as well. It would be sooo easy for Scotts to make an extension for the handle, but they rather lose customers.

Terrible product. Overall rating ZERO.

Doesn’t matter what product or what setting. Material builds up under the spreader release door causing issues. Door bends and binds because it’s plastic. It gives too easy. Plugging and not dispersing as it should. No, the grass was not wet. Really sad as this drop spreader is expensive and operates poorly. I’ve been using a drop spreader for 40 years and feel I know how to use one.

Plugs up to easily

I’ve always used a Scotts handheld spreader but when it’s windy I thought a drop spreader closer to the ground would be better to control product application and keep it off me. Disappointed on how easy this plugs up. Many Scotts products you apply to wet grass and this one sits to close and gets wet underneath and plugs. To frustrating to use back to my old faithful hand held.
