Not spreading well
on December 1, 2019
Posted by: fbernaerts

This spreader is supposed to spread the fertilizer over an area about 5 ft wide but in reality, it drops everything on one line, exactly where you walk (about 1 ft wide). You can see this in below picture. The grass is green exactly where I walked up and down our backyard but not in the areas in between. This proves that the Scotts fertilizer is working well because where it has been applied the grass is much greener than in other areas. But it also proves that the Scotts spreader is not working as it should ...

Not as good as my fathers60yearold Scotts Spreader
on February 20, 2020

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Not as good as my fathers 60 year old Scotts Spreader that is still being used every season. But there's nothing better than what Scotts has now. Be nice if they still made the old style. Might be to expensive to make now.

Broke after two seasons

I have less than an acre of grass that I use this on and the plastic mixer piece broke maybe after 6 times of use... The whole thing is no longer useful. I also made sure to rinse out after every use with water, not a lack of maintenance.

Horrible Cheap Design
on April 2, 2020
Posted by: rebell2947
I bought this spreader a year ago. The wheels are plastic snap on wheels that will not stay on. Used twice last year and half way through on use this year wheels and axle came off. Impossible to stay on. Cheap plastic sleeves on wheels are unacceptable on a spreader of this cost.

Right wheel does freely roll backwards
on April 7, 2020

Are use my spreader once, the right wheel which attaches to the gear doesn’t roll backwards freely unless the hopper is filled with weight of product. I cleaned it out, end took the wheel off. Is this normal or should I return it?

Setting issue???
on September 15, 2020
Posted by: ErickJ
from Louisville, KY
Works very well. I set to 3 1/4 for Scotts starter fert as directed. I have 10,000 sqft. After running over entire yard TWICE (opposite directions). I still have over half a bag (14,000 sqft bag) left. So, either the bag is wrong (and I did not use enough) or the setting is wrong (and I just burnt my lawn). Which is it?????

Doesn’t work with “Prilled” fertilizers
on April 24, 2021
Posted by: RSS6
from Utah
I bought this last fall and just tried to use it again. Last fall I thought my problems were operator error, but after 3 tries I have discovered what is happening. With a “prilled fertilizer ( granules about 1/16 inch diameter) when you release the control handle, fertilizer gets trapped between the slider and the body of the hopper. (The slider also is deformed down and away from the body of the hopper.). This allows fertilizer to continuously drop out behind the slider. If you operate the control handle, you now have fertilizer dropping out both in front and behind the slider, removing any delusion of applying an appropriate amount of product. The only way to maintain control of the amount of product applied is to NEVER release the control lever until the job is done or the hopper is empty. I can make it work, but it definitely doesn’t operate the way I had hoped.
