[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I absolutley loved using this spreader.I had no trouble at all with the distribution of the fertilizer i was putting on my lawn.In the past I have used others that would clog up . this one did not get clogged at all. It was easy to push and evenly spread the fertilizer on my lawn.

I was hesitant to purchase this product due to all the one star ratings. As long as you're competent (able to read and turn a dial) this product works great. Ignore the simpletons.
Pros: Easy to Use
I would recommend this to a friend!

Best Spreader Ever!

Good accuracy: because it is a drop spreader, I can tell exactly where to begin my next row. Also, I never have to question what spread setting to use because this information is stated on the bag of Scotts lawn fertilizer. Therefore, I never waste the product by using too little or too much. Good time efficiency: because this spreader holds 10,000 sq ft of fertilizer, I never have to stop and refill to finish my lawn. Thanks Scotts!
Pros: great features!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Both spreaders have Failed

I have only used my drop spreader for 2 seasons in the past 8 years. I leave the yard work in NJ to my professional landscapers due to my wife and I residing at our cottage in Canada for the summer and into the fall season. There I have 2 acres of yard work to keep me busy including spreading fertilizer. This year I have decided to leave for Canada in the fall so the yard work in NJ is now up to me. As a Note: The plastic, orange, locking mechanism on the ACCuGreen 3000 drop spreader always interfered with the operation of the handle drop mechanism. Yesterday, I half-filled my drop spreader with Scott's Turf Builder and off I went. Unfortunately I found only after 10 minutes, and into my third season use, the drop spreader had developed a crack that had opened up where the squeeze handle meets the pivoting mechanism. The handle bends instead of tightening the wire release drop mechanism. What's worse is that the squeeze handle is mounted with rivets which means that my drop spreader has not been designed to easily facilitate repairs and is now unusable. I could drill out the rivets and jury rig a repair if a replacement handle were available. I encountered a similar problem in Canada with my Scotts DLX broadcast spreader. The gearbox had locked and the broadcast spreaders wheels could not rotate when pushed forward. If I pulled the spreader, it would work in reverse. Buy a new one? No! I drilled out the rivets, flipped the gearbox, and solved the rivet problem with bolts, lock-washers, and nuts. I can not pull my Broadcast spreader but it does work normally when pushing the unit. Do I have to discard my Scotts ACCuGreen 3000 Drop Spreader or is there a chance of getting a repair kit to resurrect the cracked, inoperable handle mechanism? I can live with my unidirectional DLX Broadcast spreader in Canada but I need to know if there is a handle repair kit available for the Scotts ACCuGreen 3000 Drop Spreader? The fertilization and growth of my lawn has been temporarily suspended. I do not have a lot of time for the Spring season is slowly slipping away. Respectfully yours JOHN^k

No setting for EZSeed
on June 11, 2014

A chat session with Scotts revealed that this spreader does not have a setting for EZ seed. You have to use a trial-and-error method that could result in significantly over- or under-applying the seed. Make sure that if you buy the spreader, you buy seed that has a recommended setting for the spreader.
Cons: Didn't work as expected, Difficult to use
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
Response from ScottsBy Jeremy, Consumer Services, June 18, 2014
We are sorry that you are inconvenienced because we don't have an exact spreader setting for applying our EZ Seed products with the Turf Builder Classic Drop Spreader. This product is typically used as a patching type of product. The thick nature makes it a little more difficult to apply by a spreader, but it can be done.
To apply Turf Builder EZ seed in this spreader, we suggest measuring and marking the appropriate coverage area for you bag weight and using the highest setting (18 on this spreader) while walking back and forth over the pre-measured cover area. It will take multiple passes before all of the product is used, while it is not exact you should have fairly even coverage upon completion.
