Poorly designed

This product is poorly designed. The dispenser is at wheel height, so the fertilizer gets thrown into the wheels and drops straight down. The result is a lawn full of stripes! I cannot believe that Scotts did not beta-test this product before putting it on the market.

Stay Away From Poor Product

I bought this earlier this season. There is something wrong with te design. I too now have burnt stripes on my front and back lawns.

Works well except…

It still has open wheels. When spreading when the grass is wet the product collects inside the wheels and will drop out in clumps causing burnt dead spots if you don’t catch it. Outer than that it works well.

Check that the rotor, gearbox or agitator is not bent or damaged. When applying, if not walking fast enough the spreader will not fling the product properly and therefore will potentially hit the wheels. All of our broadcast spreaders under went a design change at the end of 2020 that changed rotor angle and changed the agitator back to a 2-wing agitator. These changes reduces the potential for the product to hit the wheels.

No information for spreading products unless they are Scott's. Why not provide a simple link instead of asking customers to call a number. Useless. I won't buy any more Scott's products since this is a pathetic attempt to lock us in.

Application amount was way off.

I actually thought it was cool (replacing my very old Scotts spreader finally), but I used the setting on the Wintergard label which is 2 3/4 and it only put down about 1/3 of the product it should have (9lbs on 10,000 sq/ft). So, I could use some help understanding why or if there is a calibration needed.

I have an older model red devil spreader. It never spreads correctly and settings are not precise. I have burned my lawn before due to it dropping too much product. I borrowed my neighbors Scott’s mini edge guard spreader and was thrilled by how it operated and laid down the product. I had to purchase my own!!

Not a good experience.

One wheel for engaging spindle. No traction on slick plastic wheels make for not engaging spindle. Gate that opens to let product out constantly sticks, even when clean and dry. Plastic around wingnut that holds handle stripped and broke off even though I had not even applied enough force to hold the handle straight.
