Very disappointed, broke on fifth use.

This spreader broke after my fifth use (exactly as the other recent reviewer's did). The shaft that attaches the spinner to the agitator broke. Very disappointed in the quality of this product especially with Scott's name on it.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Not too fancy but it does what it is expected to do with almost no problems.
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective, Value, only jams when the user doesn't follow directions
I would recommend this to a friend!

Leaves streaks, dropping too much between the whee

Design is flawed as others have noted. If Scott’s truly cared, they’d redesign & recall. But they’ve done neither. :(

Poor design; fertilizer bounces off wheels

So I’ve been using this for a few years, thinking I’ll eventually get it right. Every time i’ve used it my lawn ends up striped. At first I used the recommended settings and following the spreading pattern as prescribed, but my lawn ended up striped. Tried again, taking extra care to watch my overlap, but ended up with striping. Finally, I tried adjusting the drop gauge down by half and then running perpendicular patterns. Same result. As I’m entering fertilizing season I decided to do a little research.
Turns out this spreader has a significant flaw. The broadcaster is actually LOWER than the height of the wheels, so instead of spreading out evenly, MOST of the fertilizer doesn’t even get over the wheels. Instead, it bounces off the wheels, and drops on a narrow line of fertilizer between the wheels. Therefore, when you start your next pass, you’re missing an entire swath of your lawn.
I have no idea how this passed by quality control at Scotts. Now I’ve got to find a new spreader for this year.

It is disappointed to go to the website and find nothing about how to operate the spreader mini. Why not make user manual and tell people how to use it.

Pellets Get Stuck
on March 31, 2024

I bought this last September 2023 to apply starter fertilizer to my new lawn. The big issue I had with this product was that the fertilizer pellets would get wedged between the hopper and the shutoff bar (the molded black plastic bar that pivots when the trigger is pulled). I followed the instructions to calibrate the spreader before first use. I have the classic drop spreader so I calibrated it at 8. Even with calibration the pellets would get stuck. The result was that the spreader would drop more pellets than I wanted and would drop pellets without the lever being pulled. I tried this product again last week after calibrating and the pellets still got stuck. I'm not using Scott's brand fertilizer but that shouldn't matter.

Zero quality in your drop spreader
on May 12, 2024

I spent the extra money to buy your drop spreader vs broadcast. Almost a half acre to walk at almost 70 years old. My husband would be angry if he knew how much I spent for what I thought was a better spreader. Setting this is to complex and no matter what you do it doesn’t drop product. One would think this would be a simple tool to use and efficient. Every time I go into the garden shed I hate even seeing it. Wasted to much time and money on this. If you did a recall on these please send shipping label so you can exchange Wish I had found this site before purchase

Disappointing

I've used this to put seed and fertilizer down 2 times. For some reason the spreader is very inconsistent with how much products is put on to the ground. It seems like it just dumps out through the middle causing stripes/checkerboard patterns in my grass.
