Settings confusion
on April 14, 2022
Posted by: Spirit4a
The spreader sometimes clogs up but I just bump it and that seems to help. My biggest complaint is the spreader settings on the products Scott's sells never seems to include the Edgeguard Mini...so, it's a guessing game.

Spirit, settings for the Scotts Turf Builder Mini Spreader are included on Scotts products. You will use the setting listed for Scotts Broadcast/Rotary Spreaders. Contact us here for further assistance: https://tinyurl.com/y8nvfsca

Clog Lock and Calibrate, Oh My.....
on April 24, 2022
Posted by: David justice
Well, thought it worked good at first run. It is a big hopper and easy to maneuver when empty, however fill it even 1/4 of the way and its a different story. Wheels lock up easily, as it needs to spin the whole bar internally which is directly attached to the wheel.
If using in any wet conditions, it slogs up fast at the dropper is low to the ground.
Be ready to repeatedly calibrate. and forget trying to figure out what to set it at if it's not a Scotts product. Other product suppliers will just turn a cold shoulder to helping you with setting for this. They say use the "Test small area and calculate" method.
No-Go in my book.

The only spreader you'll need
on April 24, 2022

Spreader is durable. Perfect for my 8,000 Sq ft property. Easy to use. Holds almost 4,000 Sq ft of fertilizer. Product is just a little noisy and hard to clean.

Puts stripes on the lawn
on May 4, 2022

The spreader works ok, but sometimes puts dark green stripes on the lawn. I have never had this happen with any other spreader. I've been putting down my own fertilizer for 35 years.

The wheels are too tall
on May 28, 2022
Posted by: Papp
Too much of the material being spread is being cast into the inside of the wheels which causes it to fall directly beneath the spreader. There are streaks in my yard which are there because a high percentage of the weed and feed I used is concentrated in an area the width of the spreader. Very poor design.

Lightweight and easy to push for smaller yards.

Verified Purchase:Yes
Perfect for smaller yards. It is lighter and easier to push around the yard. The EdgeGuard has to be engaged by hand down below, which is a little awkward.

My mini broadcaster came with a shaped silver pin, and I have yet to find out where to put it.

Not built for longevity
on October 18, 2022

I bought the classic drop spreader two years ago to replace my old metal scotts drop spreader which just rusted out at the drop point where I could not control the rate of flow during application. I took good care of the new spreader, washed it down after each use and kept it in a dry shed. After two years the drive wheel started turning hard and eventually the plastic bushing at the bottom of the hopper started turning and wore an outsized hole in the side of the hopper. A new bushing will not work, as the hole is now too large in diameter for it to be secured, so a whole new plastic hopper will be required to repair the unit. After taking the spreader apart, with considerable difficulty, I found that the axle had rusted and expanded to essentially press-fit the agitator cylinder and the wheel to the axle. This after only a couple of uses over two years. Very disappointed in the service life. Also a bit disappointed that one has to use a very fine fertilizer mixture, as any of the regular fertilizers with a course mixture jams the flow regulator bar and does not allow it to close at the end of a run, wasting lots of product. Grass seed seemed to work ok until the wheels stopped turning.
