Not accurate to the product lable

I've always had to go up two full two numbers unless I go both ways to drop. I have a bag of Scott's Thicker Lawn and the product label for a Scott's drop spreader says to set it on 18. It stops at 10. I spent an half hour wrestling with Scott's virtual assistant to no prevail. I was very disjointed. I have a restricted use licence for Ag products and chemicals and i get training every year and the product Label is everything.

Disappointed

Borrowed from my Mom to apply Turfbuilder. She said something about not being able to get it set. Found out for myself towards the end of my 11k yard that the dial moves slightly when you release then resqueeze the handle. Started at the recommended 6 and ended up around 2-1/2. Did not have these issues with my old Red Devil broadcast spreader. I thought Scotts was supposed to be better than this?
Unit purchased 2013 or so. Been used less than a dozen times. I saw evidence that my Dad had used duct tape in the past to hold the dial in place. Guess that is my recourse next time I decide to try to use.
Would appreciate feedback from Scotts.

Always clogs
on June 10, 2021
Posted by: Anonymous
from Evanston, IL
It consistently fails at its most basic level: the drop holes clog up almost immediately when attempting to spread various types of Scotts fertilizers. Yet, there are no FAQs or advice as to how to deal with this problem. Why does it clog with the company's fertilizers at the company's settings? It's caused the waste of a lot of time and a lot of product. Any suggestions?

Unkniown Spreader Settings
on September 23, 2021
Posted by: Thom
My biggest issue with this drop spreader is that none of the products I want to use list this spreader on their list of spreader settings. Other Scott spreaders are always listed, but never the Classic, and when I've called Scotts, they can't tell me which other of their other spreaders this one is close to. I don't want the complication of calibrating the setting on my own.

Poorly Designed and Tested. Poor Ergonomics
on November 20, 2021

The Edgeguard Mini spreads well and the Edgeguard is a great feature. But, the propellor-like agitator breaks off its shaft. The failure of a part costing pennies results in the whole spreader going into the dumpster. Poor ergonomics: The spring on the handle that opens flow of granules is too strong and makes your hand cramp on even a small lawn. Scott’s could get excellent feedback by simply giving these to professional lawn care people for evaluation, but nope.

Any moisture clogs the spreader. If yard isn’t flat grass can touch bottom of spreader and transfer moisture

The Plastic wheels HAS TO GO!
on March 20, 2022
Posted by: jake65
I got this Drop Spreader to use with Scotts Grass Seed so that I would get the best application I could. But the TO LIGHT wheels on the spreader will not turn properly when product is in the Hopper. The Right Wheel that the Auger is attached to just slides on top of the grass and doesn't turn because the WHEELS ARE TOO THIN AND LIGHT to GRIP the Ground. This makes the Unit really hard to work with.

Poor setting support and wet grass application
on April 2, 2022
Posted by: j_jason_s
I have had this for a few years and I came to look for grass seed settings and all I get is Enter the barcode off of our product... :( Really? I do not get real numbers for common grass seed? Second, I was applying weed and feed a couple years ago which is suppose to go on wet grass and it clogs due to not clearing the top of the grass. I parked it and used a hand held rotary spreader since then and thought I'd break it out to overseed my lawn but there is not a grass seed chart. Mostly, I am disappointed that there is not a chart for common grass seed. I regret my purchase.
