poor design, not like other Scotts products.

I purchased this spreader early summer 2019 to replace older Scott's unit that was "run over" after son left in driveway. Would still be using it if that had not happened. First use of this spreader June 2019 seemed normal but after a couple of weeks noticed yard was "striped" due to fertilizer not spreading properly. Borrowed neighbor's "other" brand for second fertilize of season with great results. Pulled out the Scotts Mini first of June for a second chance and ended up with worse results. I walked parallel lines and then perpendicular to make sure even spread and now zoysia lawn looks bad and I will not be using it again. Zero stars should be an option for reviews. Scotts should provide a working replacement and take this unit back. If not, it's time to switch brands.

Junk

Bought this spreader a month ago and used it once on a tiny subdivision yard. The plastic piece connecting spreader to the spinner broke. Not rough with it at all, smooth yard. Junk.

I bought this about 2 months ago and had issues after maybe three uses. The agitator popped off, and now pops off constantly. Today, the agitator popped off, and the spreader snapped. I'll be looking for a higher quality replacement.

Lower cost, lesser performance

Purchased based on more modest price compared to other spreaders. In use, the short handle and spindly but obtrusive landing gear force me to tilt unit forward which prevents last of the product from sliding to dispensing door. In general this is not up to my recollection of the utility and quality of prior owned units.

Settings seem to be off set.

The settings seem to be off set when setting the Dial. The line on the Dial is off the Number a bit. Makes me wonder if the Spreader is working as it should. I think the Calibration might be off. Is there a way to recalibrate this Spreader? Do you furnish a tool to check the Calibration? I should have read the reviews from people with problems with this Spreader, I might not have bought it. I had an old Metal Drop Spreader for a number of years. Please reply.

Highly inferior design

I’ve used the spreader twice. My first use was with lawn fertilizer. Because of the malfunctioning frequent clump drops (which I tried to correct by spreading with hands!) I still ended up with numerous lawn burns. I spent time and money trying to fix the burn patches without much success. I gave the spreader one more try today with over seeding. Same story - ended up wasting seeds ($$$$) with the clump drops.

Streaky results and possibly calibrated wrong
on October 8, 2020

I bought this spreader in early spring to seed a large bare spot in my backyard. When I was applying the seed, I noticed that with the edgeguard ON, the seed became concentrated along the edges. Unfortunately, I did not water enough and the seed didn’t take (no fault is Scotts). In Fall, I tried again and watered religiously - great success! Based on my experience in the Spring, I decided not to use the edgeguard when I applied the seed. Better results along the edges, more even growth. BUT, there are distinct lines in the middle of the lawn where the grass seed obviously was not spread well. I just applied fall weed and feed, and found that the amount of fertilizer remaining after a full application was much more than I expected, so now I am wondering if the spreader settings are calibrated properly. My confidence in this spreader for use in the future is low. Might have to find another brand.

Our apologies that you were unhappy with your purchase of the Scotts Turf Builder Edgeguard Mini Broadcast Spreader. We make every effort to ensure a quality product and appreciate any feedback on ways we can improve. If you would like to verify the spreader is still properly calibrated, first you will need a 1/4 inch drill bit. Then you will set the spreader to 3.5. With the control lever/trigger depressed the 1/4 inch drill bit should fit snuggly in the lower left corner of the opening. If the spreader is out of calibration we recommend it be replaced. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please contact us and refer to your review to see what can be done. We can be reached at 888-270-3714.

I'm having the same problem a lot of people area. It seems to work ok uphill or on level areas. On downhill and side slopes it shoots directly into the wheel and doesn't spread. My lawn has pin stripes.
