I bought my unit about 8 months ago and it already doesn’t work. The spreader part has broken off from the shaft. Second one to do that.

Less than Expected

Several problems. First the orange curved piece would not operate properly. Had to take it apart and try to make it work but that does not appear to have corrected the problem. Second the distribution opening does not close fully and when closed it still spreads fertilizer on the concrete. Third, Scott’s spreader site does not Include Settings for The turf builder DLX Model that I have and does not recognize the 12 digit number for nitro pho’s barricade.

My 3000 Broadcast spreader often stuck in the open position ( with Scott products). Now, I can no longer use it at all as, the cable snapped in two (only 3 years old). When it worked, all was good but, when it stuck it was a pain in the @#%^. Now I find I can't buy a simple part... Also, what country is it made in?

Disappointment Beyond Belief

Extremely disappointed with this spreader. After light use under 1 full season the cable for the edgeguard came undone. The selector dial moves during the application process causing over or underfeeding of the product. Wheels dont spin smooth, and the trap door on the bottom sticks open when shutoff. Im going to look at a professional model to ensure these issues don’t reoccur

When it works, it is phenomenal - but.... I loaded my hopper to spread and while in the process of spreading I hit a unleveled spot in the lawn and the plastic that connects between the hopper and the tray that rotates snapped. Disappointed.....

Seems poorly designed

Have had this spreader for a year now. First off product wouldn’t come off rotor. Had to dump product, turned unit upside down and spun wheel. Cheap plastic sleeve is suppose to grip shaft and turn rotor. Fixed that with a self tapping screw. Second problem which was another quick fix, the settings given on bag are either too low or spreader doesn’t put out right amount. I have a 1/2 acre lot, taking out solid surfaces, buildings, and landscaping I’m left with about 14k sq ft. I buy the 15k bags of fertilizer and using the settings on the bag, always left with at least a half bag.I even use less spacing between runs. So I now double the setting on the bag which seems to work quite fine.

Burned my lawn
on June 19, 2020

Bought the spreader, filled it up with fertilizer and set it to setting 10 on the dial. Walked around my lawn as the fertilizer was spread. Two days later I began seeing striped brown lines. As the grass got greener the brown lines got browner. My lawn now has my walking pattern all over it. After inspecting the spreader I discovered the paddle only works some of the time so the fertilizer was dumping into my lawn in concentrated amounts killing a strip. It looks rediculous!
Response from ScottsBy Agent, Consumer Service, July 23, 2020
We are sorry to hear of your experience with Scotts Turf Builder Edgeguard DLX Broadcast Spreader. Over applying fertilizer to some areas causes grass to yellow or brown out. For over application the best thing to do is to water the lawn regularly to dilute the fertilizer. The spreader width is 5 feet for this product. When spreading make each pass 5 feet from the previous pass by using the wheel tracks as a guide. This will ensure even coverage. We want you to be confident in our products; therefore, we offer a product guarantee. To receive more details about this, please contact us at https://tinyurl.com/y8nvfsca.
