Terrible product. Don’t waste your money

Purchased this spreader 2 years ago. Spreader agitator broke on the third use. Searching for a replacement without any luck. Would not recommend this product as it’s poorly made and will not last.

Will not dispense step 2 properly. Quite disappointed in this spreader. It’s my second spreader in 30 years. This one is only 2-3 years old.

This thing sucks

Terrible design- within an hour out of the box- the handle had broken at the joint with the bolts- the way it is designed, no amount of tightening will get the handle to stay firm and allow you to push and use the spreader. Disappointed, thought that Scotts was a reputable brand- but this thing is junk.

After one year: Striped lawn and unusable.
on October 11, 2024

One year of use and it's amazing how much I've had to fiddle with this thing to keep it going, and now the axle has rusted so much the wheels won't even turn. The hollow wheels gather seed and fertilizer and have turned my lawn into a zebra-striped mockery. Continually fixing the adjustment cable from coming off of the dial in operation and bending down to get the lower gearbox drive mechanism to stop jamming every 20 feet. I eventually made a spacer out of PVC for both sides to keep it centered over the spline on the axle shaft.
Scotts used to be a sign of quality. This thing is such a pile of junk after a year of use I'm upset I was even tempted to buy it. Such a joke that the outer wheels are capped but not the inners. The wheel ends of the axle have rusted so badly somehow the wheels no longer rotate without massive force and the frame is showing signs of rust. I can't believe the price on this spreader for how long it has lasted and how poorly it performs. Back to hand-tossing seed for this fall, trying to even out the clumps and stripes this thing has made in my yard from clumping inside the wheels.

Do not buy! Poor design. Cheap product.

Wish I could rate it a zero. Cheap hollow wheels accumulate fertilizer and you end up with lines in your yard where too much fertilizer falls off the.wheel. in addition the.edge guard broke after the first use...

Buy a different one

I got this as a gift for a house warming present, and was SO excited to use it as this was the first time I had a yard worth fertilizing. Unfortunately, there are 2 major problems with the design. First, the edge guard simply blocks a portion of the spread so it just drops directly down which creates roughly a 1 foot wide line of darker grass all around the yard. The other flaw is fertilizer builds up on the inside edge of the plastic wheels and occasionally dumps out and burns the grass. Because it was a very thoughtful gift, not only do I not have the heart to tell them how poor of a design it is, I obviously cant return it either. Dont waste your money on this poor design.

Lawn striped

I bought the DLX spreader in early Spring thinking it was time to upgrade my 16 year old Scott spreader. After fertilizing, I noticed green lines had formed across the entire lawn after about 10 days. Thinking it was something I did wrong, I started reading reviews and found that other people had experienced exactly the same thing. Apparently when the fertilizer hits the revolving disc, a portion of the fertilizer hits the inside wheels of the spreader and drops more fertilizer where the wheels are. When the lawn greens up, you see dark green lines. Not sure why it was designed this way. The revolving disc should be above the wheels. Must say I am surprised that a quality company like Scott's fabricated such a product. So glad I kept the 16 year old Scott spreader.
