I bought this in the fall to spread seed, worked great. Just used to spread fertilizer today and the plastic spreader that spins broke!! Only the second time I used it and no parts available. This is not acceptable for a $55 spreader!
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective
Cons: poor quality parts
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Broken

So I got this spreader as a gift about one to two months ago. Well finally it was time to put down some fertilizer, so I cut off the zip tie took out the plastic rods and folded it together and tighetned the knobs down for the handle. I dumped in my fertilizer, turned the knob to the correct setting that was recommended on the bag for the dispensing and was ready to go! I started on my park strip out front of my house and things were going good.... I about finished my first section of park strip and heard a "CRACK". I looked down and saw that the black rotating spreader underneath had completly sheared clean off from the piece that runs up to the hopper. Now I have a full hopper and nothing can be done. I don't even know where it was purchased and have no receipt. So a waste of money.
Cons: broke first time i used it!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Much too difficult to push

Purchased because plastic tub on older CHEAPER Scott's spreader was cracked, but this " new design " requires way more effort to push, even when not fully loaded, so much so that I have repaired the old one and will return the new one for a refund!
Pros: Quality
Cons: Didn't work as expected, Difficult to use
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Basic design problems
on August 29, 2013

Very disappointing! Two basic design problems on a pricey spreader. First the spring sometimes isn't strong enough to close the opening when the lever is released, causing the flow to continue when it shouldn't.
Second, and the most disturbing, is the open wheel design with cavities facing inward. When spreading fertilizer on wet grass, as is sometimes recommended, fertilizer is thrown into these cavities in the wet wheels where it builds up until the clumps get big and fall out, causing burned spots in the lawn.
Did Scotts do any testing? I no longer use any of Scotts "apply when grass is wet" products because of this.
Cons: Didn't work as expected
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

All our products undergo a rigorous testing period before they are sold. We also value this kind of input from a user; no test can replace the experience of a consumer like yourself. We do offer a No Quibble Guarantee: You may want to contact us about a refund.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Spreads evenly and has a nice size tray that holds quite a bit of fertilizer eliminating having to stop often!
Pros: Effective
Cons: none
I would recommend this to a friend!

Needs a trigger lock and it seems like it dispenses more

There are some good things about this spreader. I like the bin design - it is easy to fill and it is easy to pour back excess material. The edge guard is clever.
Now for the bad. The trigger is miserable to use. There is no trigger lock and after 3/4 of an acre spreading your right hand aches. The spring forces are high so it is really a pain to use for extended period. (I liked the old Easy Green 3000 solution far better)
Compared to the Easy Green 3000 the DLX spreader is slinging far more material. Which one is correct? I'm not sure.
Overall, I can't live with the trigger.
Pros: nice large bin
Cons: Difficult to use
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
