[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have owned my broadcast spreader for over 5 years, it is still in great shape. But I have learned from a previous spreader to rinse well after use.
Pros: Easy to Use, Effective

Average product with EXCELLENT product support / customer service

The truth is that this is an average spreader that will work great for the average home owner. However just because it holds a whole bag of fertilizer doesn't mean you should. The agitator and gears will not hold up to that much weight / product.
BUT, the company stands behind the product and has continuiously sent me replacement parts over the years standing by their warranty. So in that regard as long as you don't overload it, it does a great job. And the customer service is GREAT too.
Pros: Value, Easy to Use, customer service is #1
Cons: it's not as heavy duty as i would like.

I have been fertilizing my lawns for over 40 yrs using several Scotts Drop Spreaders over the years. They always seem to rust out after about three years...and I use them every 8 weeks from March until early November. I switched to a plastic Broadcast Spreader and am so sorry I did that. The Calibration was very poor. I am going to have either a very green lawn or a very brown lawn. The right side did not broadcast even with the Edge Guard OFF. I used substantully more fertilizer with this product. So why is it that people like these anyway?
Cons: Didn't work as expected, Difficult to use

I am sorry that you are having a problem with your Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard DLX Broadcast Spreader. Here are a few things you may want to check:
Is the product damp? If the product gets damp, it may clump or stick in the hopper. Is product stuck to the underside of the spreader, along the shut-off bar or plate? If the grass is long and wet, it can cause clumping. Is the agitator turning easily? Sometimes granules of chemical get stuck in the axle bearings. This can cause the agitator to stick or jam. An application of oil to the axle bearings may resolve the problem. Is the product clinging to the inside of the hopper? Static can cause the product to stick. Rubbing the inside of the hopper with a fabric softener sheet can reduce the static. Is the shut-off bar or plate opening and closing correctly when you depress the control lever? If not, check the spreader calibration using the instructions in the hang tag that came with the spreader. If none of these points address the issue, then I'm afraid I'm unable to resolve the problem. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience please contact us to see what can be done. poor design for thumb control cable

I do not use this spreader very often as I have a drop spreader, but I always seem to have problems with the thumb control for the edge- guard and yesterday the cable pulled out of the thumb control. I tried to repair it but the cable had pulled out the end of the hole that it attaches to, and there is no way to fix it. There needs to be some kind of reinforcing of this hole for the cable to attach to.
This is a very poor design as it appears to be made to fail. I am deeply disappointed in Scotts because of this and would not recommend this product to someone, and I would not purchase another one.
I also have had problems with the chute door opening and closing. Once you have used this with product, it seems to not close anymore and you lose product as you traverse driveways and othe areas not meant to be fertilized. Becomes very messy.
Pros: Easy to Use
Cons: Messy, Didn't work as expected, Difficult to use, bad cable for edge guard
