Embarrassing!
on June 13, 2021

I spent the extra money this year and thought I was getting better. The design is horrible! For one, the seed doesn’t spread 360 degrees. The ‘edgeguard’ and green plastic shield prevent seed from coming out the back. Where does it go? Directly under the machine doubling or tripling the amount of fertilizer being added under the device causing the hideous green streaks! Second, fertilizer is being caught in the wheels an distributed under the machine as well which adds to the streak issue. The whole spinning mechanism needs to be above the wheels like professional models and allowed to distribute 360 degrees without hinderance. This would solve the problem, Do not buy this contraption unless you want to play tic tac toe out in the grass!

don't buy unless you can't afford something else

The construction of this item is shameful. The plastic bits are light weight and easily tipable. In addition, the spreader plate is too low and the product gets caught in the wheels. This causes stripes in the lawn. There is absolutely no reason they have not corrected this. They clearly just don't care to correct easily fixable problems.

Do not buy this spreader
on May 8, 2022

I bought one of these last fall and it worked terrible. I returned it because I thought it was broke. I bought another one this spring same results there's a clicking noise and results are very uneven. The fertilizer gets stuck in the wheels and causes lines in the lawn.

Striped my yard.
on May 14, 2022
Posted by: Hogeye
I bought the spreader brand new after giving away my old Scott’s spreader. It seems sturdy enough but it striped my yard badly after fertilizing with Scott’s Ultimate. This appears to be a widespread problem with all the new Scott’s walk behind broadcast spreaders according to the many forums I saw online while looking for a solution. It has something to do with fertilizer being thrown inside the wheels.
I’m currently looking for a different brand after this experience. This thing wasn’t cheap and I don’t recommend it to anyone.

Bad design flaws
on July 17, 2022

I bought this about a year ago. The second time I used it, the connection from the EdgeGuard skirt to the control cable broke. Now, I have to stop every couple hundred feet to reach underneath and push the skirt back into the retracted position. The 8" hard plastic wheels roll over tree roots at the surface with great difficulty. The wheels even fall off completely if rolling across a slope. Likely the worst product I have bought in a decade.

Worked twice then quit
on August 29, 2022
Posted by: Terry55
I bought in the spring to lay down grass seed. Used it twice. Last week I started to lay down Scott’s Weed & Feed and the wheels quit turning the broadcast plate. Cheap plastic parts on axle quit turning the gear for the broadcast plate. I would never buy again

My third unit, non lasted 3-years
on April 12, 2023
Posted by: Oxner
I've purchased three of these over the years and non made it 3 seasons. All three broke at the agitator or somewhere between the agitator and spreader plate. I completely rinse out the spreader after each use and store indoors between use so it's not a maintenace issue. Parts are all plastic and just don't hold up well. If replacement parts were available this last unit could likely be easily repaired.
